Introduction:

We are looking for a talented and experienced Cook/Chef to join our team and work at our client's home villa in Ocho Rios, Jamaica. The villa is a private residence for a family of four, including two children and two adults, with one adult and child following a vegetarian diet. The ideal candidate should be passionate about creating delicious and nutritious meals, have a diverse culinary background, and be able to cater to various dietary preferences.

Key Responsibilities:

Meal Planning:

  • Collaborate with the family to plan weekly menus that include a variety of dishes suitable for both vegetarian and non-vegetarian diets.
  • Consider dietary restrictions, allergies, and taste preferences when creating menus.
  • Ensure that meals are balanced, flavourful, and visually appealing.

Cooking and Meal Preparation:

  • Prepare daily breakfast, lunch, and dinner for the family along with snacks throughout the day
  • Create vegetarian and non-vegetarian options that are both tasty and nutritionally balanced.
  • Utilize fresh, seasonal, and locally sourced ingredients whenever possible.
  • Pay close attention to presentation and food hygiene standards.
  • Ensuring meals are prepared on time
  • Ensuring minimal / no waste of food due to poor planning and organisation

Special Diets:

  • Accommodate vegetarian and vegan dietary needs by creating plant-based, protein-rich, and satisfying meals and snacks.
  • Be mindful of food allergies and sensitivities and take necessary precautions.
  • Adapt recipes and cooking techniques to cater to specific dietary requirements.

Grocery Shopping:

  • Maintain an inventory of necessary ingredients and kitchen supplies.
  • Shop for groceries and kitchen essentials as needed, ensuring the pantry is well-stocked.

Kitchen Maintenance:

  • Keep the kitchen clean, organized, and well-maintained.
  • Manage kitchen equipment and appliances, ensuring they are in good working order.

Menu Variation:

  • Introduce new recipes and culinary techniques to provide variety and excitement in the family's meals.
  • Be open to feedback and adjust the menu based on preferences.

 Flexibility:

  • Be flexible with working hours, including evenings and weekends, as per the employers requirements.
  • Be available for occasional special events or dinners hosted at the villa.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a chef, preferably in private residences or upscale establishments.
  • Knowledge of vegan cooking and the ability to create appealing vegan dishes.
  • Strong culinary skills with an emphasis on flavour, presentation, and nutrition.
  • Exceptional menu planning and meal preparation abilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Hygiene and safety-conscious with knowledge of food safety regulations.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing dietary preferences and last-minute requests.
  • A passion for using local and seasonal ingredients.
  • Ability to drive is a bonus but not a requirement

Reporting:

  • The successful candidate will report to the villa residence manager on an agreed time/basis and have weekly update meetings, as well as to receive creative direction from the residents of the property
