General Accounting practices in line with industry standards and statutory requirements

Job Summary:

The Accounts Clerk-General Ledger has the major responsibility for accurately accounting for Cash, Bank, Fixed Assets and Inventory through the timely reconciliation of these accounts these against statements and registers.

Key duties & responsibilities:

  1. Reconciliation of all bank accounts as required
  2. Maintain the Asset Register inclusive of keeping a log of all fixed assets purchased and their location.
  3. Preparation of monthly Cost of sale and Work-in-Progress Journals, Accrual Journals and Adjusting Journals for review and approval
  1. Reconciliation of Inventory Sub Ledger and General Ledger
  1. Assistance in the preparation of Annual audit Schedules
  1. Reconciliations on Accounts Receivable Sub-ledger and Accounts Payable Sub-ledger to general ledger Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable control accounts.
  1. Preparation of monthly analytical financial reports.
  2. Review, update and reconcile accrual accounts
  1. Performs  other  duties  related  to  the  accounting  procedures  as  assigned  by  his/her Supervisor. (Accountant/Finance Manager).

Standard of Performance:

  1. Perform all reconciliations and follow up on the dispatch and receipt of these documents to respective recipients.
  1. Maintain proper filing systems and record keeping.
  1. Perform reconciliations on Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable accounts as prescribed by the Accountant.
  1. Prepare accounting and audit schedules as prescribed by the Accountant.
  1. Assist with any special accounting projects delegated to the Finance department.

  3. Must have the ability to understand and interpret supplier invoices, statements, and other request for payments

Qualifications & Experience:

  1. Five GCE or CXC O’Level passes (including Math, English and Accounting)

 and/or

  1. CAT, AAT or Level 1 ACCA Certification or equivalence
  2. At least three years progressive experience in accounting with significant emphasis on payables
  3. Must possess proficiency in computer applications including financial management and accounting systems, Microsoft Word & Excel 
  4. Knowledge of Sage/Peachtree/QuickBooks will be an asset
