Job Scope: The role is wide-ranging and encompasses all accounting-related functions of the LATT. It requires specialist knowledge of auditing, internal controls, payroll, procurement, and asset management.

Job Summary: The incumbent will be responsible for the accounting and purchasing functions of the Association. This includes responsibility for planning and directing the operations of accounting, internal controls, auditing and payroll, and development of policies. The officer is required to adequately safeguard the organisation's assets from the reporting perspective, including cash management, tax and statutory reporting.
 

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Preparation of monthly financial accounts, statements and reports for the organisation, in accordance with international accounting standards and monitor the financial performance of the organisation;
  2. Cash Flow Management;
  3. Develop expenditure reports and budgets. To maintain and analyse budgets, preparing periodic reports that compare budgeted costs to actual costs;
  4. Develop, implement, modify, and document record-keeping and accounting systems, making use of current computer technology;
  5. Maintenance of the organisation’s General Ledger and related accounting practices, including payables, receivables, inventories and fixed assets;
  6. Preparation of weekly flash reports on bank balances and other critical matters;
  7. Preparation of monthly close-off checklists for the CEO’s review;
  8. Payroll administration, which would include handling all queries and maintaining personnel files;
  9. Preparation and submission of Statutory Payments (NIS, PAYE, HSC);
  10. Calculation of VAT and preparation of VAT returns;
  11. Maintain and reimburse petty cash;
  12. Preparation of bank reconciliation statements for all financial institutions;
  13. Responsible for coordinating the procurement function by overseeing the Building Administrator’s handling and executing the organisation’s purchasing decisions;
  14. Preparation of Management Reports;
  15. Coordination of Year-End Financial Audit with development and tracking of all related tasks;
  16. Provide advice on financial matters and in formulation of the organisation’s objectives;
  17. Perform all duties and responsibilities assigned to this position but not explicitly stated in this job description
  18. Prepare reports for Council meetings and Audit Committee meetings;
  19. Manage all financial and accounting records;
  20. Maintain the fixed asset register;
  21. Prepare reports, briefs and committee notes;

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Completion of ACCA Level III recognized by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Trinidad and Tobago;
  • Advanced skills in MS Office Suite;
  • Working knowledge of accounting software is required;
  • Experience in checklist preparation, report writing and audit preparation;
  • A Minimum of 5 years progressive experience in an Accountant’s role;

KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS

  • General proficiency in using the Microsoft Office Suite and QuickBooks accounting software.
  • The ability to organise documentation in an efficient filing system.
  • General ability to work outside of 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. when required by impending deadlines and Council and Committee Meetings.
  • In-depth understanding of accounting fixed asset register management and reporting standards.
