Job Scope

The Vice President of Exports provides leadership, direction, and resource stewardship to the organization’s export development, promotion and facilitation initiatives. The Vice President, Exports is accountable for JAMPRO’s overall export performance, establishment of targets, and for aligning the export objectives with the country’s national vision. Additionally, the Vice President is charged to:

  • Lead in the development and implementation of export plans, identifying export opportunities across sectors, as well as develop and implement strategic interventions to capitalize on opportunities
  • Manage the diversification and expansion of export-focused initiatives being provided by JAMPRO
  • Manage the expansion of the Division’s lead generation and conversion system
  • Manage access to exporter facilitation and information services to all JAMPRO clients
  • Manage the organisation’s export enterprise development programmes

Sectors under the portfolio include, but are not limited to, agribusiness, manufacturing, extractive industries and creative industries.

 

Key Responsibilities

The incumbent is expected to perform duties as necessary to effectively carry out their role as VP for the Division.  These include but are not limited to the following:

  • Provide leadership to the Export team while fostering a culture of accountability, professional development, high performance and ethical behavior.
  • Identify export opportunities across market sectors, and develop/implement strategic interventions to capitalize on opportunities
  • Devise and implement a marketing and promotional plan for Jamaican exports,
  • Directly target potential exporters to encourage or increase export activities from Jamaica
  • Lead and oversee the development of new exporter-focused services and programmes
  • Direct the strategic business units within the division
  • Ensure the delivery of exporter facilitation services to expedite the expansion of exporters businesses
  • Ensure that exporters and prospective exporters are assisted in obtaining licenses, permits, certificates or the relevant clearance needed for the commencement, operation and expansion of business, as required
  • Provide exporters and prospective exporters with information on potential linkages and joint venture partnerships
  • Lead learning and development initiatives impacting the export sector and facilitation teams
  • Lead the development and implementation of JAMPRO’s signature exporter development programme – Export Max
  • Lead JAMPRO’s involvement in key national export promotion and buyer recruitment programmes, including Expo Jamaica
  • Keep abreast of developments in local and foreign markets to guide the development of new sector services and meet revenue targets;
  • Advise the Government of Jamaica on sector developments and the required policy/ procedural reforms to facilitate growth in exports
  • Work with the Vice President of Marketing and Opportunity Packaging in the development and promotion of marketing strategies to achieve export targets.
  • Work with the Vice President of Investment and Linkages in the development and promotion of strategies to achieve investment and export targets
  • Work closely with the Corporate Initiatives Department and the Management Information Systems Manager to ensure corporate and technology initiatives that will bolster performance are implemented
  • Direct the development and implementation of monitoring and evaluation systems for agreed activities, special projects and programmes;
  • Undertake human resource management activities in relation to direct reports, including but not limited to interviewing and selection, performance management and evaluation, training, coaching, disciplining and approval of leave for staff in accordance with Agency policies and procedures
  • Assist in the preparation of the Agency’s corporate plan and budget
  • Prepare monthly status and other ad-hoc reports as required for submission to Board, President and other stakeholders
  • Represent JAMPRO at national and international forums
  • Perform other related functions as assigned by the President.

Qualifications, Experience and Key Competencies

  • Advanced degree (Master’s or higher) in Marketing, Management Studies, Economics or equivalent business-related qualification/training.
  • Training and experience in project management and analysis.
  • Five (5) years’ related experience at a senior managerial level in a comparable environment.
