Senior Internal Auditor

First Heritage Co-operative Credit Union Limited seeks to recruit a proactive and solutions-oriented individual to fill the position of Senior Internal Auditor in our Internal Audit Department.

 Summary:

 The incumbent FHC will assist the Chief Internal Auditor in providing independent, objective assurance and consulting service designed to add value and improve the organization’s operation in the financial, operational and information systems areas. The incumbent will also lead and conduct all special investigations as required. There will be also be significant exposure to senior management throughout the FHC Group. Additionally, work closely with managers and partners from third-party organizations providing joint internal audit support when required. The role also supervises the Internal Auditors in carrying out their assignments and provide weekly progress reports to the Chief Internal Auditor.

 Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Assist the Chief Internal Auditor with preparation of the Annual Audit Plan
  • Manage the individual internal audit assignments per year from the Audit Plan and manage Special Investigation assigned as required. 
  • Develop audit and special investigation Programmes and Procedures for achieving audit and investigation objectives and goals
  • Supervise the daily activities and work of other auditors and provide weekly updates on activities and performance to the Chief Internal Auditor
  • Ensure that all agreed audit recommendations are subsequently implemented by department people leaders
  • Stay abreast of best practices both internally and externally and provide conduit for introducing those practices through audits and in discussions in Entrance and Exit Meetings or when necessary
  • Attend Monthly Supervisory Committee Meetings and make report/presentation when required.

 Qualifications and Experience

 

  •  First Degree in Accounting/Finance Management or related field
  •  Pursuing level 3 of Professional accounting designation (ACCA, CPA) and/or Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) designation.
  • Certified Fraud Examiner certification is an asset
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in accounting or auditing, 2 of which should be at a supervisory level
  • Experience conducting fraud investigations

  • Thorough knowledge of the Credit Union’s Policies and Procedures
  • Knowledge of IIA’s (Institute of Internal Auditors) International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing
  • General knowledge of the principles and practices relating to audit and investigation
  • Excellent Interviewing skills
  • Excellent Information Technology Audit skills
  • Excellent research and investigative skills
  • Advanced user of Microsoft Excel and Access, Power Point
  • Excellent time Management skills
  • Excellent evaluatory, analytical and problem solving skills
  • Sound monitoring skills
  • Sound communications skills both orally and in writing
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work closely with people at all levels
  • Ability to maintain a strong sense of integrity, confidentiality and independence
  • Excellent reasoning abilities and good judgement
