Our Client in Newport Jamaica is seeking a suitably qualified candidate to fill the role of Freight Clerk. The incumbent must have experience in freight forward and logistics.

JOB SUMMARY

Handle and coordinate Freight consignment delivery/recovery activities efficiently according to standard operating procedure and customer requirements to maximize productivity/customer satisfaction.

JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Coordinate with customers (if required) on shipment handling according to standard operating procedures and customers’ requirements. •
  • Handle customer enquiries/complaints on shipment handling.
  • Update DGF Operations Lead on progress of handling shipments.
  • Highlight to DGF Operations Lead on complex operations issues.
  • Coordinate with airline/shipping line /supplier/contractor contact to ensure smooth shipment handling and compliance with standard operating procedures/customer requirements.
  • Coordinate with DGF Operations Lead to ensure prompt issue resolution and smooth operations.
  • Create customs documentation and post on the webserver.
  • Fill template with billing info, to send to the Finance department in the DR.
  • Coordinate Collection of services & duties with Customer upon or prior to delivery.
  • Scan invoices and post on server.
  • Fill AP template with invoices to be paid to vendors.
  • Process payment when due for vendors.
  • Prepare Payment template.
  • Coordinate effectively with other department contacts to ensure efficient shipment handling/documentation/customs clearance/customer issue resolution.
  • Process inbound shipments as per standard operating procedure and customer requirements.
  • Process and file shipping documents as per standard operating procedures.
  • Monitor shipment status and update company systems (e.g., Ops Log & Cargo Wise) as per business rules.
  • Handle cargo preclaims.
  • Monitor empty container returns as per standard demurrage procedure.
  • Incumbent has no direct reports and authority over country line and functional personnel. Nevertheless he/she must be able to demonstrate ability to influence decisions/actions through provision of value-added inputs into the organization’s business processes.
  • Responsible for creation of Job orders and Data entry in Ops log/ Cargo wise
 
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Minimum requirement Bachelor's Degree
  • 3 years of relevant experience preferably in the Freight Forwarding and Logistics industry

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
  • Basic knowledge in AFR- & OFR operations i.e., handling/ documentation/ customs clearance
  • Attention to Detail
