IT Technician

Summary:

 

The Service Desk Technical is required to provide ‘Tier one’  technical  and non-technical support to end-users by resolution of  ICT related incidents, inclusive of issuance, maintenance and repair of computers, peripheral ICT equipment and software applications  to achieve end user functionality in accordance with pre-determined standards. 

 

The incumbent is also required to configure, install, maintain, troubleshoot and upgrade computer hardware, software and peripheral equipment and make recommendations as appropriate.

 

Education, Knowledge and Experience

 

  • Associate Degree in Computer Science
  • A+ Certification
  • ITIL Service Desk Certification would be an asset
  • Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP)

 

  • In-depth Knowledge of computer hardware and software technologies that would  support Business Applications

 

  • A minimum of two (2)  years’ experience performing  similar functions in an IT environment of a large, diverse organization

OR

Equivalent combination of Qualification, Training and Experience

 

 

 

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

Help Desk Functions

  • Receives end-user requests via telephone, email and/or intranet etc.; and  records activity using approved software
  • Physically or remotely diagnoses  user problems and resolves in accordance with standards
  • Tests and documents procedures for new or modified software, hardware and connected equipment
  • Tests equipment and keeps log of operational status
  • Evaluates software and hardware needs of End User where applicable
  • Provides PBX and mobile phones support to specific end-users.
  • Maintains accurate records of service calls and their resolution, and escalating issues
  • Provides immediate support to end-users where practical, or takes alternative action as applicable
  • Logs all relevant data in the approved Helpdesk System.
  • Creates and administrates accounts, accesses control and permissions to the network resources
  • Maps users to relevant network drives and resolution of drive access issues.
  • Ensures accounts are disabled in accordance with  instructions

Other Technical Support

  • Installs computer hardware, software and telephone equipment following design or installation directions
  • Maintains computers and peripherals such as printers, scanners and related hardware; performs repairs and upgrades where required.
  • Assists in documentation of procedures relative to the job function
  • Assists in monitoring and ensuring end users adherence to all IT policies and procedures  
  • Researches and prepares recommendations for the acquisition or upgrade of computers, network hardware and peripheral equipment and software.
  • Prepares and maintains updated relevant documentation (e.g. inventory, software summary, mobiles, broadband wireless)

 Reports

  • Reports network issues and recommendations in accordance with procedures
  • Prepares and submits daily/weekly/monthly/ad hoc reports in approved formats and timeframes
  • Performs any other duties related to the job function as may be assigned
