SUMMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES

The Associate Dean of Pre-Clinical Sciences (PCS) main purpose is to facilitate networking, teambuilding and ensure timely communication of important School, Faculty and University matters with the School’s academic clinical leaders and administrative staff.

The Associate Dean - PCS is responsible for the day to day operations of the School of Medicine, including the planning, development and delivery of the School’s curriculum to its students. This is to be carried out in accordance with the administrative and academic policies and procedures of the Faculty and the University. The Associate Dean carries the responsibility of maintaining and enhancing, where necessary, the academic standards of the University of Belize School of Medicine. This also includes working in partnership with external institutions that will provide  clinical training. The Associate Dean will also act in support of the Faculty Dean as it relates to the efficient and effective administration of the entire Faculty.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Manage, develop and deploy all staff for the benefit of the School’s function and goals.

2. Ensure balanced distribution of the workload to meet the School’s function and goals.

3. Ensure that the productivity of the staff of the School of Medicine are in line with the Faculty and University calendar.

4. Develop and submit work plans, course assignments, and course outlines to the Dean in the time allotted.

5. Develop and submit course schedules to the Dean in the time allotted.

6. Ensure accountability by all staff as it relates to the maintenance of academic standards, teaching responsibilities, student advising, and submission of documents, tasks etc.

7. Providing leadership to all of the School’s faculty and staff.

8. Recommend academic appointments and promotions as well as recruiting of faculty.

9.Encourage and assist faculty members with professional development, improving teaching methodology, and research

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

▪ Must be eligible to become a Licensed Medical Practitioner in Belize.

▪ Must be a Specialist Medical Practitioner, qualified to practice that specialty in the country of training and must have a terminal qualification in the specialty field given by a tertiary level education and, or medical institution.

▪ Must have a minimum of 7 years of working experience in the specialty in which the candidate is qualified.

▪ Must have a minimum of 4 years of medical administrative and, or education experience.

▪ Stationed at the University of Belize, Belmopan Campus.

COMPENSATION

Commensurate with the level of qualification and experience.
