SENIOR ACCOUNTANT

JOB SUMMARY

The accountant plans, coordinates and directs the activities of the Accounts Department ensuring timely acquisition, allocation and utilization of financial resources so as to steer the Company to profitability and positive growth. The incumbent is also responsible for preparing financial statements and reports, on a timely basis for presentation, to the Director, Management, government agencies and financial institutions.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Prepares annual Management Accounts with detailed variance analysis and explanations.
  2. Manages the Accounts Department to ensure the timely processing of information and resolves any routine problems which may arise.
  3. Reviews and develops systems to ensure the completeness and integrity of information from the various departments and to ensure the adherence to present accounting practices, policies and systems.
  4. Coordinate the company’s annual financial audit, inclusive of the preparation of audit schedules and compilation of other supporting documents for review by the external auditors.
  5. Monthly review of the accounting records and transactions for all the companies in the group, reporting on any discrepancies noted and authorizing the corrections to be made.
  6. ensures that all statutory payments are prepared and filed on a timely basis including Vat, Business Levy, Green Fund, PAYE, Health Surcharge and National Insurance.
  7. Prepares and File the Corporation Tax Returns including td4s and the paye annual return.
  8. Implement & maintain internal financial controls and procedures.
  9. Maintain the company’s fixed asset register and calculate monthly depreciation on all assets held.
  10. Responds to and resolves all issues arising with the Financial Institutions, Board of Inland Revenue and other external parties relevant to the Accounts Department.
  11.  Ensures that Suppliers are paid in a timely manner so as to ensure the continuous supply of goods and services.
  12. Ensures that supplier statements are received and reconciled in a timely manner.
  13. Reviews all cheque payment vouchers to ensure accuracy of information.
  14. Providing external auditors with assistance; gathering necessary account information and documents to perform annual audit.
  15. Assisting management in the decision-making process by preparing budgets and financial forecasts.
  16. Liaises with the Customs Broker to ensure timely preparation of Duty, VAT and other relevant payment cheques for the expedition of clearance of foreign shipments
  17. To provide excellent service to management, auditors and other internal departments, maintaining customer confidence & protecting operations by keeping financial information confidential.
  18. Any other duties as required by the managing director or his/her designate.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • ACCA qualified or equivalent professional qualification.
  • MBA would be considered an asset
  • A minimum of seven (7) years’ accounting experience required
  • Experience in the construction industry would be considered an asset
  • Proficient in Microsoft office
  • Accounting software experience preferably in Peachtree
  • Results oriented individual with great problem-solving skills and takes a high level of initiative.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Able to exercise sound judgment under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Energetic and proactive, enthusiastic with a positive attitude

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Highly computer literate
  • High level of integrity & confidentiality
  • In depth knowledge & experience of MS Suite
  • Develop and implement financial policies and procedures 
  • Organized, detailed-oriented and attentive to accuracy in reporting
  • Able to multitask, work independently and manage competing priorities effectively
