The Credit Manager oversees the credit union’s lending and credit granting process.
Conducts thorough analysis of loan applications; evaluates creditworthiness and financial backgrounds of potential borrowers. Analyses credit reports, income documents, and other relevant information to make informed lending decisions.
Regularly reviews and analyses the loan portfolio’s performance, credit metrics, and key performance indicators to identify areas for improvement and opportunities for growth.
Establishes and maintains lending criteria and guidelines for different types of loans. Ensures that loans are underwritten in accordance with established policies and regulatory requirements.
Leads the credit department and supervisory team. Provides guidance to ensure consistent and accurate credit decisions and exceptional customer service.
Sets performance goals for staff in the credit department; measures and monitors results and provides productivity results
Conducts performance assessments in line with the Performance Management Programme
Ensures compliance with all relevant laws, regulations and credit union policies pertaining to lending and credit operations.
Prepares comprehensive reports on the performance of the loan portfolio and credit department.
Recommends appropriate initiatives to expand the co-operative’s credit offerings; implements measures to improve the efficiency of the performance of the loan portfolio; enhances the member service experience; and collaborates with the Senior leadership to increase the interest income and profitability of the Co-operative.
Seeks ways to automate processes in the credit department to improve productivity and reduce costs.
Analyses market trends to make recommendations for credit terms
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree in Banking, Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Management or a related field
A minimum of 5-10 years’ experience in credit administration and credit risk management (five of which should be at a senior level).
Certification in underwriting a plus
Proven experience in credit analysis, underwriting, and portfolio management in a financial institution of a similar asset size and complexity; including formal training in underwriting.
In depth understanding of the financial services industry including risk management, compliance and regulatory requirements.
Extensive knowledge of digital technology and financial analysis software, spreadsheets and other relevant technology tools.
Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret financial data and credit reports effectively

Leadership, team management and decision making skills
