Job Description

The General Counsel reports to the Commission’s CEO and serves as a member of the executive team, leads and manages the Legal, Compliance, Risk Management and Internal Audit functions. The position is responsible for overseeing all legal matters and the delivery of legal services to the Commission, and is the primary legal advisor to the Commission, the Chief Executive Officer and the Commissions’ senior management team.

Qualifications and Expeirence:

• Master’s or a Juris Doctor degree, or equivalent, with a strong academic record evidenced by successful graduation of an accredited and recognised law school
• Bachelor’s degree in Law or related field 
• Twelve(12) years’ senior legal experience including the supervision and management of attorneys, and leading a Legal department.

Key Accountabilities:

• Contribute to the development, and operationalise the strategic plan for the provision of legal services in accordance with, and in support of, the Commission’s objectives
• Oversee development of legal and other documents that set the framework for the operations of the Commission
• Provide and oversee the provision of legal advice and guidance by the Legal Department
• Manage and supervise staff and oversee the daily workflow of the Legal Department
• Maintain and manage relationships, and liaise with internal and external stakeholders
• Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders and oversee external stakeholder and counsel arrangements
