Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Fleet Engineer to oversee the maintenance, repair, and
efficient operation of our fleet of vehicles and equipment. The Fleet Engineer will play a crucial
role in ensuring the safety, reliability, and longevity of our fleet while minimizing downtime and
maintenance costs.
Key Responsibilities:
Vehicle Maintenance and Repairs:
- Perform routine inspections and maintenance on all fleet vehicles, including garbage compactors, open tops, and garbage skips.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues, coordinating necessary repairs and parts replacements.
- Schedule and manage regular maintenance services, including oil changes, brake inspections, and tire rotations.
- Maintain accurate records of all maintenance and repair activities.
Fleet Management:
- Ensure all vehicles and equipment comply with safety and environmental regulations.
- Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules to minimize breakdowns.
- Monitor fuel consumption and implement strategies to improve fuel efficiency.
- Evaluate and recommend fleet upgrades or replacements as needed.
- Utilizing GPS systems to monitor drivers and track vehicles in case of theft.
Team Collaboration:
- Collaborate with the operations team to ensure efficient fleet deployment and Scheduling
- Assisting in the recruitment of quality drivers into the fleet
- Supervise and provide guidance to maintenance technicians and mechanics.
- Procure necessary parts and equipment for repairs and maintenance.
- Safety and Compliance:
- Ensure all vehicles meet safety standards and regulations.
- Implement and enforce safety protocols for fleet operations.
- Stay updated on industry trends, regulations, and best practices.
Qualifications:
- Certification in Mechanical Engineering or a related field (preferred).
- Proven experience as a Fleet Engineer or similar role in the automotive or waste management industry.
- Strong knowledge of vehicle maintenance and repair techniques.
- Familiarity with waste management equipment is a plus.
- Excellent problem-solving and diagnostic skills.
- Strong communication and leadership abilities.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
