Assistant, Field Safety (6 months to one year)
Position Title: Assistant, Field Safety
Department: Safety, Health & Security
Reporting To: Supervisor, Field Safety (Contractor)
This is a contract position of 6 months to one year.
Job Scope
• Assist in hazard recognition in the field
• Assist in ensuring understanding of, and compliance with applicable legislation, especially the OSH Act of Trinidad and Tobago
• Assist in ensuring understanding of, and compliance with CLIENT’s safety and health policies and procedures, especially our life critical procedures
• Assist in job hazard assessments
• Present information using various media, including verbally, via PowerPoint or similar, both face-to-face and virtually as needed
• Collaborate with all personnel in all departments at CLIENT, including all contractors, on safety issues
• Participate in daily plant morning/project/turnaround/outage meetings and give advice on safety issues
• Participate in toolbox meetings
• Develop and maintain reports and records to document issues encountered and/or resolved in the field
• Assist frontline workers in conducting structured pauses
• Additional safety, health, and emergency preparedness or response duties may be assigned when needed, in consultation with the Supervisor, Field Safety
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience
• At least five CSEC passes, including Mathematics and English (A)
• Working knowledge of the OSH Act of Trinidad and Tobago
• Working knowledge of relevant US OSHA regulations
• Training certification in a range of safety topics, including confined space entry and fall protection
• Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
• Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills
• Ability to work at heights and to use ladders and stairs, including approved scaffolds
• Ability to generate reports, PowerPoint presentations, toolbox topics, and awareness training materials
• Ability to conduct awareness level training and lead collaboration meetings
• At least 10 years’ experience as a Field Safety Officer or equivalent, in the energy sector
• Must be able to work flexible hours, including night shifts and/or weekends and public holidays when required, and in accordance with CLIENT’s fatigue management practice
• Computer literate – proficient in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Teams
• Must have a valid Class 3 Driver’s Permit (preferably not restricted to automatic transmission)
• Knowledge and/or experience of industrial and process plant operational and maintenance activities would be an asset
• Knowledge and/or experience with breathing air, gas detection and rescue equipment and systems would be an asset
• Emergency response certifications, e.g., fire-fighting, medical, rope rescue, confined space rescue, HAZWOPER, etc., would be an asset
• A Class 4 (Heavy Motor Vehicles) or Class 5 (Extra Heavy Motor Vehicles) Driver’s Permit would be an asset
• A degree or associate degree in occupational safety and health, or NEBOSH certification (or equivalent) in occupational health and safety would be an asset
