IT Infrastructure Manager

Reporting to the Assistant Vice President, Information Communication & Technology, this position has the responsibility for designing hardware architecture solutions to support and coordinate information systems being used by the Commission.

The incumbent will be responsible for the planning, installation and maintenance of the data center infrastructure, databases, operating systems and related components that will provide the necessary processing capabilities for the Commission’s mission critical information systems.

OTHER Duties and Responsibilities Include:

  • Taking overall responsibility for the security of Data Centre operations and ensuring that appropriate controls are implemented.
  • Producing business cases for recommended architecture and infrastructure changes, identifying the anticipated business benefits, together with the risks and consequences of failure to support infrastructure performance reporting.
  • Preparing cost justification proposals for capital and recurring expenditures relevant to the areas of responsibility.
  • Implementing the procedures pertaining to logical and physical access to the organization’s IT resources.
  • Evaluating the need for additional components for User Departments and monitoring and approving expenditure with regards to their purchase.
  • Providing technical management of the Data Centre, ensuring that agreed service levels are met and all relevant policies and procedures are adhered to, whilst seeking means of continual improvement.
  • Developing Disaster Recovery Plans, ensuring these are consistent with the Corporate Business Continuity Plan.
  • Formulating policies and procedures to optimize the use of IT resources within the organization and developing the department’s objectives to support these policies.

Ideally, the successful applicant should possess:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Engineering or Computer Science with a strong database background.
  • A minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a similar capacity.
  • Sound knowledge of Windows, Linux, UNIX Systems, VMware, Hyper-V and Veeam.
  • Knowledge of Database Management Systems with knowledge of Oracle and SQL.
  • Familiarity with corporate, industry and professional standards, policies, regulations, compliance and codes of conduct associated with the role.
  • Sound knowledge of O365, including SharePoint and Exchange Online.
  • Proficiency in Infrastructure Architecture, the frameworks and principles on which networks, systems, equipment and resources are based- both on premises and cloud-based.
  • Expertise IT / IS infrastructure, operating systems, configurations and the IT applications and service processes used within utility companies.
  • Knowledge of Project Management.
  • Good leadership and human relations skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and troubleshooting techniques.
