To assist and support with the implementation and monitoring of the Health, Safety, Security and Environmental (HSSE) system throughout the company network of service stations, operational & administrative locations.

MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES 

  • To support and promote the company HSSE Management system across organisation, network and with contractors. 
  • To promote a proactive and transparent safety culture within the organisation and network. 
  • To monitor and report on key performance indicators to track and provide insights into leading and lagging indicators of HSSE results. 
  • Provide guidance on the compliance of all legislative and other relevant HSSE requirements. 
  • Monitor compliance with established safety rules and make sure these are conspicuously communicated. 
  • Conduct planned inspections and verification exercises to assess conformance with HSSE Management System, prepare the reports for submittal and review with the Site Manager and HSSE Coordinator. 
  • Promote the STAR process with teams by conducting and reporting unsafe conditions and unsafe acts immediately. Promote the practice of stopping work if there is a significant danger of an event occurring. 
  • Report immediately to the Site/Station Managers any serious safety breaches that place workers in life-threatening situations. 
  • Undertake periodic Toolbox Talk meetings with staff and or contractors as assigned to ensure review and discuss HSSE matters, review the risk assessments and to promote healthy discussions on HSSE relevant topics. 
  • Assist with the development and delivery of the Safety Orientation Training for all workers including Subcontractors and visitors prior to starting work or visiting the site. 
  • Assist the HSSE Coordinator with the development of safety procedures and or work instructions for HSSE Department. 
  • Provide and compile HSSE statistics and data to as requested for reporting on the HSSE Management System.
  • Monitor the operational activities to ensure they are carried out in accordance with the environmental permit and the specific procedures for environmental protection. 
  • Support the development of suitable and sufficient risk assessments based on regulatory requirements, as assigned. 
  • Ensure HSSE information e.g., policies, procedures, legal requirements, etc. are communicated and disseminated to the relevant stakeholders (employees, dealers, service providers, customers). 
  • Assist in the development and implementation of a hazard identification program for the company network. 
  • Assist with the Emergency Response Program. 
  • Demonstrate an understanding of and model the mission and core values of the company through behaviour and attitude. 
  • Provide support for ensuring compliance to the Control of Work system. 
  • Perform other related duties as may be assigned from time to time.

 

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS 

  • A NEBOSH National Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety or Diploma in Occupational Safety, Health, and the Environment. 
  • BSc. Degree in Occupational Safety, Health, and the Environment or equivalent and any other related disciplines will be an asset. 
  • Minimum of four (4) years’ experience in the HSSE field with two (2) years energy sector experience.
  • Must have in-depth knowledge of applicable regulatory (OSH Agency, Environmental Management Agency, Bureau of Standards, Ministry of Energy and Energy Industries, Ministry of Health, etc.) requirements. 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite. 
  • Certified Internal Auditor Training in ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 will be an asset. 
  • Committed to confidentiality, ethical practice, and integrity in the performance of one’s duties. 
  • Good time management and organizational skills to manage and prioritize multiple streams of work. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Excellent collaboration and interpersonal skills. 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. 
  • Strong relationship building and customer service skills. 
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast paced and continuously evolving environment. 
  • Computer Literate; MS word, Power Point, Excel. 
  • Knowledge of health, safety and environmental law and legal processes.
