Mathematics Teacher

A private high school located in Montego Bay is seeking a Mathematics Teacher for the September school term.

 

Teachers’ Focus

●       To understand, embrace and facilitate student access to and integration of the curriculum.

●       To participate actively in the overall progress and development of every student, providing all students with the highest level of personable, professional and holistic support for their success.

●       To facilitate and encourage an interdisciplinary, collaborative environment where students excel with the international, entrepreneurial and socio-emotional vision of the mission and vision.

 

Criteria for this position:

Bachelor's Degree/ Master's Preferred

5+ years’ teaching experience

 

Key Roles

●       Excellence in classroom teaching, employing best practices in 21st Century education

●       Proper oversight of student health, safety, discipline and ethical development

●       Appropriate and professional communication at all times with all relevant stakeholders

●       Understanding completely and integrating the learning management system to communicate daily with parents and students about student learning and adjustment.

●       Working in very positive manners with colleagues and other relevant professionals associated with the school community

●       Leading an extracurricular activity of your own strength for at least one afternoon a week during the school year

●       Personal and professional development in your field(s) of responsibility

 

Teaching

●       Plan and teach daily well-structured lessons, adhering to the curriculum while challenging students at or above their level

●       Communicate absences and tardies immediately to the School Secretary

●       Ensure that you cover your classes completely daily, giving fair notice to the Head of School when that is not possible, with lesson plans, coverage and contingency plans to ensure student learning is not interrupted or impaired

●       Promote daily progress, work habits, skill development and outcomes for students

●       Earn unpretentiously students’ respect for your authority and mastery of your subject and curriculum

●       Educate all your students creatively, using differentiated learning strategies at all times

●       Engage students in ways that invite them to celebrate their strengths and manage their weaknesses

●       Assess, record and report on the attendance, progress, development and attainment of students and to keep such records as are required

●       Provide, or contribute to, oral and written assessments, reports and references relating to individual students and groups of students including formative and summative assessments

●       Ensure a high-quality learning experience for students which meets internal and external quality standards

●       Prepare and update content materials and utilize technology in lessons

●       Use a variety of delivery methods which will stimulate learning appropriate to student needs and demands of the syllabus

●       Maintain discipline in accordance with the school’s procedures, and to encourage good practice with regard to punctuality, behaviour, standards of work and homework.

●       Undertake assessment of students as requested by external examination bodies, departmental and school procedures

 

Whole-school organization, strategy and development

●       Contribute to the development, implementation and evaluation of the school’s policies, practices and procedures, as indicated in the staff and family handbooks

●       Make a positive contribution to the wider life and ethos of the school, on and off campus

●       Work with others on curriculum and student development to secure coordinated outcomes

●       Provide cover, in the unforeseen circumstance that another teacher is unable to teach

 

Health, safety and discipline

●       Promote the safety and well-being of students

●       Maintain good order and discipline among students, managing behaviour effectively to ensure a strong and safe learning environment

 

Communication

●       Communicate effectively with students, parents and guardians

 

Working with colleagues and other relevant professionals

●       Collaborate and work with colleagues and other relevant professionals within and beyond the school to meet school goals and initiatives

●       Develop effective professional relationships with colleagues

 

Personal and professional conduct

●       Take part in the school’s evaluation procedures

●       Take part in further training and development in order to improve own teaching

●       Where appropriate, take part in the appraisal and professional development of others

●       Uphold public trust in the profession and maintain high standards of ethics and behaviour, within and outside school

●       Have proper and professional regard for the ethos, policies and practices of the school, and maintain high standards of attendance and punctuality
