To assist in the implementation and monitoring of Ethics and Independence policies and procedures within the firm which enables compliance with KPMG’s Global Ethics and Independence policies.

KPMG as a provider of Audit, Tax and Advisory services must ensure that as a firm we uphold the highest level of ethics and integrity and that we maintain our independence from our clients to avoid real and perceived risks, and conflicts of interests.  The Ethics and Independence team (E&I) at KPMG is responsible for monitoring and ensuring the firm and its employees maintain compliance with KPMG’s Ethics and Independence policies and procedures. 

The Associate, Ethics and Independence will be part of the Ethics and Independence team and will report directly to Ethics and Independence Manager. There will be close interaction with the regional (KIG) E&I teams and the Global Independence Group which is a part of KPMG International.

Job Purpose:

To assist with preparing reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends. This will contribute to the team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Apply a fundamental understanding of the applicable independence rules and regulations in executing procedures that contribute to providing basic guidance to field professionals on the application of firm policy and regulatory rules and in providing entry-level guidance directly to field professionals on the application of such policy and rules in an area that requires limited judgment  
  • Execute tasks of priority to the workgroup with limited supervision; manage a queue of multiple tasks that have both long-term and short-term deadlines; serve as mentor or coach to associates and monitor their work on team projects
  • Perform basic independence technical research to contribute to the provision of technical guidance and to execute tasks; display a basic understanding of the impact of decisions on Audit, Advisory or Tax engagement teams and clients
  • Regularly interface with Independence Group workstream director-level professionals regarding the execution of tasks and responsibilities that contribute to achieving desired outcomes for the Independence Group
  • Identify opportunities for innovation within executed tasks, processes and projects that contribute to the improved efficiency and effectiveness of the work group
  • Participate in and prepare for interactions with Audit, Advisory or Tax professionals to provide guidance regarding the application of professional independence standards along with a supervisor; directly interface with Audit, Advisory or Tax professionals on entry-level or routine matters involving professional standards or firm policy with limited involvement of a supervisor

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Minimum one year of recent Independence, legal, client service or related business experience
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university, preferably in Finance, Accounting or Business Administration

Compensation and benefits are very competitive and will be commensurate with experience.
