IT Generalist

An engineering and contracting company in Kingston is seeking a versatile and skilled IT Generalist to join their dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have a broad understanding of various IT disciplines, strong problem-solving abilities, and a proactive approach to technology support and management. The IT Generalist will play a pivotal role in maintaining the organization's technology infrastructure, providing technical support to end-users, and contributing to IT projects and initiatives.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical support to end-users, troubleshooting hardware and software issues, and resolving technical problems efficiently.
  • Install, configure, and maintain computer systems, networks, printers, and other IT peripherals.
  • Manage user accounts, permissions, and access controls across various systems and platforms.
  • Assist in the planning, implementation, and maintenance of IT projects and initiatives.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of IT systems with business processes.
  • Perform regular system updates, patches, and maintenance tasks to ensure optimal performance and security.
  • Monitor network infrastructure, server performance, and system logs to identify and address potential issues proactively.
  • Maintain hardware and software inventory, track licenses, and ensure compliance with software usage agreements.
  • Assist in the development and enforcement of IT policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Provide training and guidance to end-users on utilizing software applications and tools effectively.
  • Stay up to date with the latest industry trends, technologies, and best practices to recommend improvements for the company.
  • Collaborate with external vendors and service providers to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues as needed.
  • Participate in on-call rotations and respond to IT emergencies outside of regular business hours if required.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
  • At least 2 years' proven experience as an IT Generalist or similar role, with a strong background in supporting various IT functions.
  • Proficiency in operating systems (Windows, macOS, Linux) and common office software.
  • Solid understanding of networking concepts, protocols, and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Familiarity with virtualization, and remote desktop technologies.
  • Experience with Active Directory, group policies, and user authentication methods.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to analyse complex technical issues.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey technical information to non-technical users.
  • Proactive and customer-oriented attitude with a commitment to delivering high-quality IT support.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Project management skills and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Relevant certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP), or similar are a plus.
