Performs scientific and technical tasks under the general supervision of the LABORATORY DIRECTOR/CHIEF MEDICAL TECHNOLOGIST. To assist and support the medical professionals' decisions and care in a designated division or department of the Laboratory.
Medical Technologists
FUNDAMENTAL COMPETENCIES
· Staff Performance Appraisal conducted and submitted annually or as required
· Laboratory Quality program monitored and appropriate corrective and preventive action recommended daily
· Reagent and Consumables Ordered from suppliers weekly or as required
· Equipment, Reagent and Consumables inventory prepared and submitted monthly
· Patients report validated, authorized and dispatched daily
· Technical expert consultation performed and documented
· Annual, Monthly, Quality Indicator and Special data collected, collated and submitted
· Department’s duty roster prepared and submitted monthly
· All specimens received in department processed according to Standard Operating Procedures daily
· Staff trained and assessed as set out in the staff/department’s training program/ procedures

MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
· Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology from a reputable academic institution
· Licensed Medical Technologist with the Council, Professions Supplemental to Medicine (CPSM) in Jamaica.
Three (3) years of minimum experience and/or supervisory management training
· Extensive knowledge in or expert in one or more of the following disciplines: Haematology, Clinical Chemistry, Microbiology, Immunology. Haematology.
· Training in Laboratory Quality Management Systems and Laboratory Standard (ISO 15189/ISO)
· Knowledge of computer applications and usage. A competitive remuneration package exists for the successful applicant.
