SENIOR ACCOUNTANT

The role of Senior Accountant is a junior management post and has responsibility for the financial management and allocation of the budget. The incumbent should have significant management experience, particularly hands on leadership of a large staff complement and will have a strong grasp of the English language.

 

Job Qualifications:

  • Tertiary level education in the field of Finance or Accounting
  • Knowledge of accounting software packages
  • Knowledge of Financial, Administration and Audit Act (FAA Act)
  • Computer literacy with sound knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems. And will be able to identify measures or indicators of system performance and the actions needed to improve or correct performance, relative to the goals of the system
  • Good analytical skills
  • The incumbent will also possess the following knowledge base:
  • Economics and/or Accounting -- Knowledge of economic and accounting principles and practices, the financial markets, banking and the analysis and reporting of financial data.
  • Good Time Management Skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels (written and oral)
  • At least five (5) years in the accounting or auditing field at a supervisory level in the manufacturing environment.

Job Functions:

Some of the functions of the position are defined as follows, but not limited to:

 

  • Daily, Weekly, Monthly supervision of accounting data entry activities involving:
    • Accounts Receivables – in relation to collections, returned cheques etc.
    • Accounts Payables – in relation to payments to ensure that policies and procedures are complied with

 

  • Management of the Daily, Weekly and Monthly reports from the following systems:
    • Accounts Receivables
    • Accounts Payables
    • Sales Analysis

 

  • Checking of all lodgments

 

  • Check and approve payables, receivables and payroll  Monthly Journals and Cash Book entries, for posting to the General Ledger.  Ensure that the General Ledger systems are maintained and updated monthly.

 

  • Ensure that Accounts Payables and Accounts Receivables control accounts are reconciled on a monthly basis

 

  • Review analysis of Asset and Liability accounts ensuring reconciliation with General Ledger (Other Receivables, Accrued Expenses, Loans, etc) following completion of Trial Balance

 

  • Prepare Fixed Assets and Depreciations Schedules on a monthly basis, and ensure that the company’s assets are adequately insured at all times at competitive rates.

 

  • Responsible for the supervision of the Weekly Payroll (prepared every Thursday)

 

  • Assist with the compilation of the Monthly payroll (24th of each month)

 

  • Responsible for the following monthly functions:
  1. 1.     Posting of the payroll a/c cash book entries
  2. Reconciliation of bank current a/c, Payroll Account and US Account
  3. Posting of monthly payroll journals
  4. Posting of Euro currency a/c transactions & reconciliation
  5. Preparation of staff loan schedule

 

  • Assist the FC with the preparing schedules to make Statutory payments by 14th of each month and preparation of Annual Statutory Returns by Jan 15th each year

 

  • Supervision and checking of monthly GCT computation and ensuring that Input and Output tax items included fall within the law, for payment, by 28th of each month

 

  • Preparation of Audit Reports and Schedules for the Annual Audit – One month after the end of the Financial year

 

  • Assist with conducting Annual Appraisal of Accounting Staff directly under your supervision
  • Ensure that inventory valuation journals have been reconciled with production values.

 

  • Ensure that cycle stock counts are reconciled and posted in a timely manner and the audit process is adhered to.

 

In general, the Senior Accountant will support the Commercial & Finance Manager with respect to the following functions:

 

  • Assist in the financial planning process, budgeting, procurement, or investment activities of all or part of an organization.

 

  • Assist in and where necessary develop internal control policies, guidelines, and procedures for activities such as cash and credit management, and accounting.

 

  • Analyze the financial details of past, present, and expected operations in order to identify development opportunities and areas where improvement is needed.
