Research and Policy Analyst

 About the FSC:

The Financial Services Commission (FSC) is an integrated Financial Services regulator. Our mission is to regulate and supervise the Securities, Insurance and Private Pensions industries for the protection of their users, thereby enhancing public confidence through the efforts of a competent workforce. 

We are seeking individuals who are self-directed, results-oriented, and have a passion for providing excellent service.

The FSC has an immediate opening for the position of Research and Policy Analyst.

Position Summary:

This position conducts primary and secondary macroeconomic and sectoral research to produce credible analytical data to guide the FSC to formulate and initiate responsive policies and regulatory measures for the industries. The Job Holder is expected to gather early insights into emerging policies and macro-economic outlook and subsequently, advise the FSC on how to be responsive.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and execute macroeconomic and other research initiatives.
  • Coordinate the production of FSC’s Annual Report.
  • Inform recommendations to address weaknesses in, and enhancements to the regulatory and legislative frameworks for supervision.
  • Assist in the preparation of technical reports, presentations (locally, regionally and internationally) including representations on regional technical working committees and task forces, as necessary.
  • Monitor financial and technological innovations as well as developments in accounting practice and assess their likely impact on the financial system.
  • Collaborate with relevant FSC Divisions to make contributions to the FSC’s website in order to give the industry easy access to industry and regulatory data.
  • Research and analyze financial data, current and emerging issues relevant to the regulated industries to guide the FSC to develop early and appropriate regulatory responses.
  • Assist in the preparation of publications outlining the FSC’s position on various policy issues.
  • Design and recommend policy/regulatory frameworks to promote innovations and growth in the industries.  
  • Manage and maintain relationships with external regulatory agencies at the regional and international level.
  • Participate, as required, in the planning and implementation of regulatory conferences for industry participants.

Education, Knowledge and Skills:

  • First Degree in a quantitative discipline e.g., Economics, Statistics, Actuarial Science or Accounting.
  • The job requires at least 3 years’ relevant work experience in a comparable position and business/work environment preferably in regulatory services, public policy management, central bank or a national policy research and development institution.
