Job Purpose
The Lead Market Development Manager is accountable for creating and implementing approaches and plans for the development of new opportunities and markets in order to develop ACCA’s ecosystem, enhance brand impact, grow the business in the short term and lay the foundations for future growth.
Typically, the role works across stakeholder groups, identifying opportunities, developing approaches and building relationships in order to build ACCA’s business within the designated market or cluster. This may involve developing new or remotely managed markets, second cities or new sectors within established markets.
Key Responsibilities
Strategy and Planning
• Develops approaches and plans for designated market/s to build ACCA’s ecosystem, leverage opportunities, grow the business and lay the foundations for future growth
• Identifies and progresses opportunities to grow ACCA’s share of priority market/s, sector/s or segment/s, ensuring a clear and compelling proposition
• Using agreed criteria and aligned to growth targets, determines which market/s, sector/s and/or segment/s should be prioritised within the overall plan
• Owns, monitors and drives the achievement of key performance indicators and targets for the market/ cluster through the effective management of opportunities
Engagement
• Builds relationships with partners in order to generate insights, create ACCA’s ecosystem and develop new markets
• Leads relationships with key partners and stakeholders to support market development objectives
• Drives the implementation of agreed market development initiatives to secure short and longer term business growth
• Identifies innovative investment opportunities for ACCA and works with colleagues locally, regionally and globally to bring these to fruition
• Channels insights and requirements to the centre to support the development of ACCA’s products, proposition and content
• Represents ACCA at appropriate local forums to raise the profile and brand impact of ACCA within the profession

• Builds a deep understanding of market trends, economic conditions, education sector developments, competitor activities and ACCA’s product and service offering in order to optimise development of the market
• Reports regularly on progress through the appropriate reporting mechanisms
Key Relationships
External
• Existing and potential partners – members, employers, universities, learning providers, regulators, national accounting bodies and professional forums. Contacts at all levels
Internal
• Accountable to the Country/ Cluster Head for the achievement of objectives, KPIs and targets
• Business Development/Relationships, Membership, Employer, Education and Public Affairs colleagues to collaborate on new market opportunities
• Global ACCA teams as required e.g. Content Development & Commercialisation, Partnerships & Recognition, Professional Qualifications, Professional Insights
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
• Educated at least to degree level or equivalent
• Demonstrable experience in business development and business-to-business selling, ideally in a professional services or education environment
• Strategic thinking: ability to identify and develop new approaches and initiatives
• Understanding of accountancy and/or the professional education environment
• Strong knowledge of local market trends, economic conditions, education sector developments, competitor activities and ACCA’s product and service offering
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build long term, high quality, trusted relationships up to and including board level
• Strong networker and prospector at all levels
• Strong influencing and negotiation skills
• Excellent communicator with excellent presentation skills, both written and oral
• Highly motivated, proactive and enthusiastic with the ability to plan and organise work to meet stretching targets
• Commercially orientated and results driven with a track record of successful delivery and an ability to identify new opportunities
