MANAGER INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS

 

 

Position Summary:

The Manager Industrial Relations is responsible for providing Industrial Relations services to achieve improved efficiencies, harmonious working relationships and high productivity. The incumbent shall work in collaboration with other Human Resources Managers and the management team within the Company to achieve specific business targets.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Promote a harmonious Industrial Relations climate throughout the Company.
  • Maintain good Industrial Relations practices throughout the Company.
  • Research best practices to aid in the development, and implementation of HR policies and procedures.

 

Accountabilities:

  • To develop and implement strategies to support a harmonious Industrial Relations climate
  • Responding to employee relations issues ensuring that employees’ concerns are adequately addressed.
  • To conduct disciplinary hearings, attend conciliation meetings, Court hearings and recording and preparing notes of the proceedings as required.
  • The investigation of complaints and grievances in a timely manner with a view to determining validity and for effective resolution.
  • To guide staff in the authorize channel for grievance settlement and assists in drafting disciplinary correspondence and to ensure disciplinary matters are recorded.
  • To recommend appropriate disciplinary sanctions/actions.
  • Provide guidance on Health and Safety issues/queries.
  • Liaise with attorneys and Industrial Relations practitioners as required.
  • To research best practices and recommend initiatives to be implemented.
  • The formulation/design and implementation of human resource policies, procedures and programs.
  • To review existing policies and make recommendations for improvement, and effectively communicate all human resource policies, plans and programmes to staff.
  • Gather relevant information to assist in the preparation of the annual budget which informs budgetary decisions.
  • To provide information on labour legislation and statutory regulations for the effective handling of industrial relations issues.
  • The research of relevant Labour Laws, good industrial relations principles and practices, ILO Conventions and providing guidance to management to ensure that actions conform to existing legislation.

Required Technical Competencies:

 

Education and Certification:

  • A First Degree in Human Resource Management, Business Management or related Social Science discipline. An equivalent combination of qualifications and experience.
  • Diploma in Labour Relations, Industrial Relations or related field from an accredited tertiary institution.
  • Post graduate Certificate in a related field will be an asset.

 

Experience:

  • Minimum of seven (7) years’ experience in a similar leadership role with at least three (3) years at a financial institution.
  • Suitable combination of training and experience.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of conflict management approaches and techniques.
