Our Client, the First Citizens Group, is currently seeking to fill the position of Group Deputy Chief Executive Officer – Operations & Administration. Applications are to be submitted on or before August 24, 2023.

Job Summary

The Group Deputy Chief Executive Officer – Operations & Administration plays a lead role in the day-to-day running of the business in the Group including providing direction and leadership toward the achievement of the organization’s strategic business plan, objectives, and annual goals. He/She will also work closely with the Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) to create the management practices that enable a high performing and effective executive team.

  

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conceptualizes business strategy and models in collaboration with the other members of executive management to advance the performance of the group
  • Develops the strategic framework for the Group as part of the Group’s executive team to ensure commitment and a clear, shared and consistent understanding of how the strategic priorities can be achieved
  • Leads the delivery of corporate change programmes to ensure that the objectives are understood and change is effectively embedded
  • Oversees the strategic direction to the assigned reporting functional areas: Group Operations (Shared Services, Project Management Office, Facilities Management, Systems and Procedures, Security Services, Fulfilment Centre); Group Sourcing and Procurement; Group ICT, Group Legal, Compliance, and Governance; Group Strategic and Corporate Planning; Group Marketing and Communications.
  • Responsible for driving the development, refinement and implementation of the bank’s business strategy
  • Supports the GCEO in the preparation and implementation of the strategic annual plans
  • Develops a high performance management team in all functional areas that can strategically realize the Group’s business objectives
  • Oversees all operations to ensure activities are carried out in compliance with the respective regulations and laws governing the Group’s business operations
  • Provides leadership of direct reporting heads of department and ensures that there is full compliance with all regulatory requirements
  • Maintains high-level oversight of the operations of the Group’s budgeting, financial management, expense control, resource and capital allocation, and performance improvement initiatives
  • Leads policy development from a strategic perspective, working along the GCEO and other members of the executive management team
  • Manages and balances key stakeholder relationships to support the groups business objectives
  • Measures the performance of his or her Executives’ in accordance with established policies and objectives and facilitates coaching and development as may be required
  • Manages risk/return and drives quality for new and/or existing clients
  • Serves as a member of the Group’s executive management team to provide specialist or technical knowledge as a subject matter expert
  • Provides policy advice and support to the GCEO
  • Serves as a director on the boards of subsidiary companies within the group and on the boards of external companies in which any entity within the group may have an interest
  • Acts as a Brand Ambassador for the Group to represent the group at professional, business and community organizations to promote the group and increase business
  • Performs the duties of GCEO when required

  

Qualifications and Experience

  • Candidates must possess a Post Graduate Degree in a relevant discipline from a reputable university or other professional qualification from a recognized professional body e.g. CFA, CIMA, ACCA and at least of seven (7) years extensive and successful experience in the banking or financial services sector at the senior executive level and a list of demonstrated accomplishments and achievements at this level OR
  • A First Degree and a minimum of twelve (12) years’ experience in a banking or financial services sector at a senior executive level and a list of demonstrated accomplishments and achievements at this level

  

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Working knowledge and understanding of the economic and general business environment and the banking and financial services industry
  • Working knowledge of relevant legal and regulatory requirements locally, regionally and internationally
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, business and financial acumen, leadership traits, and negotiating ability
  • Strong risk management, sales and marketing, problem solving, evaluation, analytical, presentation and project management skills
