The Laboratory Technician (Contract) is generally accountable for facilitating process decision-making by performing testing as required in accordance with established test methods and Company’s quality procedures.

The Laboratory Technician (Contract) is generally accountable for facilitating process decision-making by performing testing as required in accordance with established test methods and Company’s quality procedures.

  1. Responsibilities includeValidates quality of raw materials, blended, in-process, and finished petroleum based products by performing the established control tests in accordance with the schedule of laboratory tests and evaluating results against control specifications.
  2. Assists in preparing the blending requisition as well as supervises blending procedures as required.
  3. Assist in determining corrective actions for off specification petroleum based products to ensure conformance to specifications.
  4. Verifies for approval, the discharge of petroleum based products from vessels in accordance with the Company’s QMS.
  5. Provides laboratory services by way of inspection of bulk storage tanks, tanktainers, and IBC to establish usability as required.
  6.  Contributes to ensuring that all formulations are current and updated when new base oils and additives are received by preparing and testing trial blends.
  7. Maintains the Company’s QMS and ISO accreditation by participating in Proficiency Testing, Inter-laboratory Cross-check Programmes, and audits.
  8. Monitors the inventory levels of chemicals and spares for equipment.
  9. Conducts laboratory tours and assist in the development of new recruits/trainees by providing guidance as required.
  10. Performs all duties in conformance to requirements of ISO/IEC 17025:2017, ISO 9001:2015 and the organization’s policies and procedures.
  11. Practice safe work habits, carry out general housekeeping duties, and comply with all safety, health, and environmental rules and regulations.
  12. Performs any other duties as required by the job function.

 The successful candidate must ideally possess:

  •  Five (5) GCE/CXC passes at General Proficiency including English Language, Mathematics, and Chemistry.
  •  Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or equivalent qualifications.
  •  Two (2) years’ experience as a Laboratory Technician
  • Familiarity with tests conducted in a QC Laboratory for Fuels and Lubricants.
  •  Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications.
  •  Knowledge of NP's products.

OR: any other equivalent combination of qualification and experience.
