ASSISTANT PORTFOLIO MANAGER

Job Summary: 

Supports the Portfolio Manager as necessary to deliver superior returns for clients. Assists with the management of investment portfolios by analysing market trends, identifying new investment opportunities and implementing investment strategies. Provides operational support by maintaining databases as well as preparing reports and other communication materials for external and internal audiences.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Portfolio Manager in developing and implementing investment strategies for client portfolios
  • Identify and recommend investment opportunities in equities, fixed income and other relevant asset classes
  • Manage assigned portfolios in accordance with approved investment strategies
  • Produce daily, periodic and ad hoc detailed reporting and analytics to support the Portfolio Manager by conducting rigorous market and investment-specific research, valuations and return analysis using fundamental and/or technical analysis
  • Keep abreast of current events, macroeconomic trends, new products in the marketplace; and create projections for the impact of trends, events and relevant actions on assets held in client portfolios
  • Monitor assigned portfolios on a daily basis with respect to alignment with active investment views and consistency with portfolio objectives
  • Assist with day-to-day portfolio management tasks including execution of trades, preparing portfolio and risk summary reports, evaluating new issues and secondary market opportunities and managing cash balances
  • Conduct due diligence and evaluate fund managers by reviewing investment manager strategy, style and performance on both a quantitative and qualitative basis
  • Analyse funds and funds of funds in terms of portfolio construction and optimization, correlation and scenario risk analysis, and liquidity reviews
  • Maintain research database, including performing financial modelling valuations on equities and ensuring data integrity
  • Prepare client communications, including performance reports, presentations, informational articles and ad-hoc content in response to market events
  • Participate in meetings with clients and contribute to the development of investment policy statements
  • Prepare reports and presentations for internal and external audiences
  • Any other responsibilities consistent with achieving the company’s objectives

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, economics, business, accounting or similar qualification
  • CFA Level 1 completed and actively working towards becoming a CFA charterholder
  • Minimum 5 years work experience in the financial services sector with at least 3 years in an investment-related role
  • Working knowledge of Bloomberg would be an asset
  • Strong Proficiency in Microsoft Office Excel and Word
  • Must possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Must be able to work independently, using initiative as appropriate
  • Must be able to maintain strict confidentiality
  • Should possess strong communication and interpersonal skills
