The primary role of the Bursar is to maintain the accuracy of student tuition and fee accounts and oversee the billing process to ensure timely and accurate billing statements for students.

The Bursar is responsible for reviewing tuition and fees, approving account adjustments, and ensuring accurate student refunds. In addition, the Bursar will act as cashier for all operational receipts and disburse all financial aid funds. The Bursar will be responsible for the financial administration of students' records and students' liability to the College. The office shall be responsible for the success of the Financial Aid /Bursary program. The successful candidate manages cashiering, student financial services, and centralized accounts receivable systems for the College. The incumbent will also provide leadership, training, and guidance for staff of the Bursar's Office to achieve excellent customer service for students, parents, and internal/external customers. Work is performed independently, under the general supervision of the Vice President, Finance, and Administration.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Ensures that all College funds, including student payments, chargebacks, government checks/drafts, receipts from financial institutions and other sources are properly accounted for and deposited into the prescribed College bank account in a timely manner.  Reconciles all General Ledger accounts assigned to the Bursar’s Office.
  • Maintains the accuracy of student tuition and fee accounts and oversees the billing and receipt process to ensure timely and accurate billing statements for students.  Responsible for all students’ accounts (full-time, part-time, work study, workforce development, work study, and other specialized populations)
  • Establishes, communicates, and enforces tuition payment and refund policies. Maintains communication, orally and in writing, with parents, students, sponsors, and scholarship foundations or agencies.
  • Pursues and implements alternative payment methods and other financial services that benefit  students, parents, and sponsors.
  • Leads the effort to ensure optimal use in the Division of Finance and Administration of the College’s Banner system and other technology-based solutions to improve organizational efficiency and effectiveness.

 

Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in business with a specialization in finance from an accredited higher education institution
  • A professional accounting designation. ACCA qualified
  • Experience in a higher education role or similar role will be an asset.
  •  A minimum of five (5) years experience in a senior position of financial management responsibility, with at least 2-4 years post-certification work experience at the supervisory level

 

Salary Range: $15,500- 18,000
