To research, analyse and provide recommendations on all assets that form a part of JMMB portfolios - client portfolios or JMMB’s own portfolios.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Researches, analyses and reports on local, regional and international markets, identifying investment opportunities, threats and weaknesses and providing value added recommendations (including but not limited to buy/sell/hold recommendations) to support all portfolios, management teams and bodies associated with or incorporated by the JMMB Group.

 

  • Utilizing modern techniques and systems, research and analyses listed companies on the JSE, BSE, TTSE, ECSE and Global Exchanges and create full coverage reports to inter alia, support Proprietary and Client Portfolio investment decision making processes. Equity recommendations will also include new listings, IPO’s (Junior & Main Markets) across the region (Latam & The Caribbean).

 

  • Utilize modern techniques—including but not limited to relative value, duration & spread analysis—to assess the value of sovereign, quasi-sovereign and corporate debt instruments across the region (Caribbean, Latam & the Americas) and to make recommendations to support all portfolios, management teams and bodies associated with or incorporated by the JMMB Group.

 

  • Uses valuation techniques, economic outlook and forecasts and an understanding of clients’ needs for liquidity, investment and liability management to assess the quality and/or viability of capital market offerings for clients and JMMB’s own portfolios.  

 

  • Continuous analysis, preparation and periodic review of full coverage reports to support the tactical and strategic management of all discretionary portfolios (e.g. Unit Trust, Pension Funds, etc.)

 

  • Helps to create added value to the JMMB brand and fulfil JMMB’s commitment to public education on investment through writing and disseminating (e.g. publications, investment seminars, presentations, etc.)  investment research analysis to a range of target audiences, both internal and external, local and international.

 

  • Acts as the Research liaison/resource for ideas/research papers for the development of structured financial products specifically designed to relieve capital employed in long term commitments towards improving group profitability.

 

  • Acts as the main liaison/resource between the Research Department & Strategy Team by participating in the gathering of information on competitors' products and services, and the collection and analysis of demographic data on existing and potential customers as specifically requested.

 

  • Evaluates the business environment, future directions and areas of opportunity, the industry structure, accomplishments of competitors and makes macroeconomic and company specific recommendations to leaders of appropriate business lines to improve and/or maintain existing levels of growth and profitability.

 

  • Participates in the collaborative efforts between JMMB and its subsidiaries.

 

  • Promotes the JMMB’s philosophy of the Vision of Love and its unique culture.

 

  • Is engaged in the transformation process for the continuous improvement of the JMMB and its associated companies.

 

EDUCATION, TRAINING & WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

 

  • Masters Degree in Economics or Finance with a very high level of quantitative knowledge and skills, with a broad knowledge of investment research, sovereign credit and corporate credit analysis
  • Chartered Financial Analyst or in pursuit of the certification, or equivalent.
  • Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills—engaging, people oriented, influencing, comfortable with change, client centric, trustworthy, an initiator, objective & focussed.
  • Licensed by the Financial Services Commission or other appropriate regulator, or a suitable candidate for licensing.
  • Working knowledge of financial sector laws, regulations, ethics and professional jargon. In-depth understanding of the local financial sector and exposure to international capital markets.
  • High level of oral and written communication skills.
  • Very high level of proficiency in the use of computers, particularly spreadsheets and modelling software. Working knowledge of presentation programmes and equipment.
  • Excellent oral and writing skills
  • At least 5 years work experience in investment or related economic research in a financial institution.
  • Experience in pricing financial instruments, econometric modelling and forecasting techniques would be an asset.
