Our Client, Tropikist Beach Hotel and Resort, is seeking to fill the position of Accountant. This is a permanent position based at Tropikist’s Administrative Office in Chaguanas, Trinidad.

JOB SUMMARY

The Accountant will assist the accounting department with data entry, processing, and recording transactions, updating the ledger, audits or fact-checking, preparing budgets and reports, managing payroll and statutory payments, and payables and receivables.

 

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Control the payroll and reconciling bank statements
  • Prepares monthly financial reports, with supporting analyses where appropriate.
  • Assist in preparing budgets, forecasts, and business planning including project room revenue
  • Establish and oversee compliance with internal controls
  • Reconciles all statutory payables (PAYE, NIS, Health Surcharge, Corporation Tax, VAT, etc.) monthly.
  • Prepares and submits the VAT Return by the stipulated deadline.
  • Chase late payments, report bad debts, and monitor cash flow
  • Maintain accurate and current AP and AR records
  • Process cash disbursement and cash receipts
  • Perform month-end close reconciliation and financial analysis
  • Substantiate financial transactions by auditing documents
  • Assists in the preparation of audit schedules and deals with auditors’ requests for information in a timely manner.
  • Review daily cash balance and maintain cash flow projections
  • Prepare a monthly bank reconciliation for all company account
  • Review vendor invoices and monthly statements to ensure all expenses are processed in the AP system
  • Comply with financial policies and regulations

 

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least three (3) years’ experience in a similar position
  • Completion of at least Level 1 of ACCA
  • Knowledge and practical experience with Quickbooks Accounting Packages would be a definite asset
  • Experience in payroll, vat, NIS, health surcharge
  • payables and receivables
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work skilfully and effectively with the team
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of issues and materials designated as such.
