PUBLIC RELATIONS OFFICER
We are looking for an energetic and highly organized candidate, with strong communication and negotiating skills to fill the position of Public Relations (PR) Officer in our Corporate Planning and Communications Branch. The successful candidate will be required to design and implement multi-sector public relations strategies for financial education and awareness and inclusion initiatives for an effective deposit insurance system. About the JDIC:
The Jamaica Deposit Insurance Corporation (JDIC) was created by the Government of Jamaica to protect depositors and promote stability and confidence in Jamaica’s financial system and has a mission to:
- Protect insured deposits against loss due to the non-viability of Deposit Taking Institutions;
- Provide financial and other assistance in the restructuring/resolution of non-viable Deposit Taking Institutions consistent with the parent legislation for the resolution of financial institutions and other applicable law and standards of best practice;
- Manage the Deposit Insurance Fund consistent with its statutory objects;
- Support the promotion of financial consumer protection and financial inclusion;
- Take such necessary steps to minimize its exposure to loss.

About the Role:
Reporting to the Director, Corporate Planning and Communications, the PR Officer has direct responsibility for ensuring that the JDIC brand and reputation is maintained at the highest level. The Officer must be able to manage the Corporation’s public relations and communications strategy and to engage with diverse stakeholders groups, including the media.
Core Responsibilities:
The Public Relations Officer is accountable for:
- Executing the corporate communications strategies, consistent with assessed diverse stakeholder needs, in a dynamic and complex financial system in pursuit of the sustainability of the Corporation’s objectives for financial system confidence.
- Managing the design of the Corporation’s public education and awareness programme so as to ensure its relevance and effectiveness over time for different stakeholders groups; including depositors, Member Institutions, the media, financial system safety net partners, and other key stakeholders.
- Developing strategies and campaigns to execute the initiatives as per the public education and awareness programme using multiple tools and channels to disseminate information to a diverse target audience to foster understanding of the protection under the Deposit Insurance Scheme and the role and function of the Corporation in contributing to financial system confidence and stability.
- Providing subject matter expertise in cross-functional support and guidance on behalf of the Branch to achieve the key objectives of the Corporation’s communications strategy, including initiatives under the public education and awareness programme, and maintenance of the JDIC brand and corporate image while adapting to stakeholder needs.
- Managing the Corporation’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Programme in keeping with the policy.
Qualifications, Experience and Specialized Training:
- First Degree in Public Relations, Mass Communication or equivalent from a recognized tertiary institution.
- Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in Public Relations or Communications with media management experience.
Required Knowledge, Competencies and Skills:
The preferred candidate should have excellent communication skills, an interest in understanding deposit insurance and evolving innovations in the financial services industry and the supporting financial regulation and infrastructure. Other attributes should include:
- Excellent public relations skills
- Excellent oral, written, report writing and presentation skills
- Knowledge of media house operations and advertising
- Good analytical and problem solving and decision making skills
- Highly organized and able to manage multiple projects with medium to high levels of complexity and to prioritize and meet critical deadlines
- Demonstrate project management capability scope, budget for time and cost resources, and manage risk
- Social media management skills
- Be motivated to work in the public sector
- Be highly confidential
