The job of the Data Centre Operations Engineer includes carry out the day to day operations of a Tier 3 Data Centre, maintaining the overall uptime of the facility and maintaining the security procedures.

Qualifications:
Minimum of Diploma in Electrical/Mechanical or equivalent
1 -2 years experience in a similar position
Functional Skills:
  • Strong working experience with networking best practices including structured calbing and network design.
  • Familiar with IP routers and switches.
  • Self-motivated, continuous learner and comfortable and effective working in new areas that require  experimental and rapid problem solving.
 
Duties:
  • Reporting to the DC Operations Manager, the primary duties of the Contractor will be, and not limited to, perform support and client consultation to our clients: plan, design, implement and support customers’ Network Infrastructure. 
  • Perform day to day operations of the Data Centre.
  • 100% hands-on with data centre infrastructure provisioning and server/network equipment deployments
  • Actively participate in Data Centre capacity planning and growth including cage/rack layouts as well as power and cooling systems
  • Perform maintenance surrounding data centre infrastructure upgrades and hardware refresh.
  • Manage assigned customer tickets/issues to resolution
  • Work in a team of data centre operations engineers in accomplishing the various day-to-day data centre related tasks as well as expansions and new build-outs ensuring proper handover of tasks and to be completed and incidents/events of note to the next shift member
  • Fulfilling project requirements for new data centre hardware deployments
  • Maintain Data Centre uptime to minimum SLA of 99.98% per calendar year
  • Perform software and hardware upgrades of key data centre infrastructure
  • Preventative maintenance to ensure high availability
  • Work to resolve faults that arise
  • Ensure optimal running of core network devices to maximize efficiency
  • Troubleshoot power, cooling and monitoring systems faults
  • Conducting system tests and analysing outputs to determine resolution of faults and
  • communicating these to the Senior Engineer/Manager
  • Improvement and Development of all data centre services/environments
  • Reviewing and making recommendations for necessary tools needed by Engineers to maintain the network
  • Actively participate in identifying critical single points of failure and provide recommendations for corrective measures
  • Work alongside consultants to be able to better support installed equipment / software
  • Work with various engineering departments to fulfil project requirements for new data centre hardware deployments
  • Maintain Data Centre Security
  • Observe all security protocols for access and change management
  • Ensure data centre security systems are operational including access controls, CCTV cameras and DVRs, fire detection and suppression systems
  • Maintain strict access control to all customer equipment and maintain strict customer confidentiality
Working Condition:
  • Required to work in a 24x7x365 shift rotation
  • Required to work during weekends
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs safely  and reliably
  • Must be able to pass a security background check
