Under the general direction of the Manager, Research and Risk Management, and the direct supervision of the Research Analyst, the Business Data Officer provides support in the area of data analysis with a focus on the monitoring and evaluation of projects and programmes across the TEF.
Salary Range: $4,162,214.00 - $5,597,715.00
CORE FUNCTIONS
- Conducts ongoing research for continuous business analysis and project ideation in the key areas overseen by the project-executing departments - tourism innovation, entrepreneurship, tourism certification, craft development, tourism risk management and tourism infrastructure;
- Provide support to project-executing departments by conducting research, analyzing tourism data in order to ensure that reports are prepared in time and quality requirements.
- Assist in executing impact assessments on TEF projects e.g. TEF Beaches Programme, TEF Artisan Villages Programme, Christmas in July, Speed Networking etc.;
- Recruit and manage field workers to execute data collection activities for TEF projects and events;
- Ensure that the research database is properly organized, including raw data, metadata, cleaned data, reports, etc.;
- Assist Research Analyst in managing research project implementation and overall coordination of project outcomes;
- Monitor Destination Jamaica’s performance according to ley reports such as the World Economic Forum’s Travel and Tourism Competitive Index and make recommendations.
- Interpreting data, analyzing results using statistical techniques;
- Assist the Research Assistant in developing and implementing data analyses, data collection systems and other strategies that optimize statistical efficiency and quality;
- Develop first drafts of the survey instruments to gather data;
- Scrutinize data to generate information that helps TEF in their decision-making processes;
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS/ WORKING CONDITIONS
- From time to time the incumbent could be required to work outside of the normal working hours of the Tourism Enhancement Fund for the completion of assignments and on weekends to meet emergency deadlines.
- Travel out of town/island with notification.
Required Qualification and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in a quantitative discipline such as Economics, Statistics or equivalent qualification
- 2 years of relevant work experience
- Experience in Projection Management
- Experience in strategic planning is an asset.
Knowledge/Skill requirement:
- Knowledge of the issues in the tourism industry.
- Knowledge of brand Jamaica and the various sectors/industry which contribute to tourism.
- Demonstrated data analytics skills including analyzing complex data to test hypotheses, evaluate results and draw conclusions.
- Proven ability to draft, edit and produce written proposals and results-focussed reports.
- Ability to work in a team.
- Good interpersonal and customer service skills
- Critical attention to details
- Proven experience working with Government, civil society, international organizations and donors is an asset.
- Advanced IT skills in relation to Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
- Knowledge and competencies with data software i.e SPSS
- Exposure and experience with respective stakeholders within the tourism industry.
