Job Summary:

We are seeking a detail-oriented Chief Accountant to join our team. As a vital member of our accounting department. Chief Accountant has responsibility for the complete and proper execution of the Company’s financial management including the day to day accounting, cost accounting, budgeting functions, monthly/quarterly and annual reporting and financial activities. The Chief Accountant will apply accounting principles & procedures to analyse financial information and assist in preparing accurate and timely financial reports and statements while ensuring appropriate accounting & internal control procedures. Positive leadership and interpersonal skills will be highly valued to foster a collaborative work environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Managing Director, the Chief Accountant will be responsible for:

  • Ensure on time completion of month end, quarter and year end close and accurate financial reporting to meet the requirements of external auditors and comply with IFRS standards.
  • Prepare and analyse monthly accounting and financial reports.
  • Compile and analyse financial information to prepare entries to accounts and document business transactions.
  • Establish, maintain and co-ordinate the implementation of accounting control procedures.
  • Analyse and review budgets and expenditures.
  • Monitor and review accounting and related system reports for accuracy and completeness, ensuring the integrity of the financials.
  • Prepare and review budget revenue, expense, payroll entries, invoices and other accounting documents.
  • Analyse revenue and expenditure trends and recommend appropriate budget levels and ensure expenditure control.
  • Recommend, develop and maintain financial data bases, computer software systems and filing systems.
  • Ensure the input and handling of accounting and financial data and reports for the Company’s automated financial systems.
  • Ensure that the Company’s accounts receivables are collected in a timely fashion and that appropriate action is taken to address any delinquent accounts.
  • Ensure that the Company’s accounts payables are settled in a timely fashion.
  • Prepare and maintain cash flow forecasts.
  • Preparation of Audit Schedules
  • Support the management team with the preparation of Capex proposals.
  • Perform cost accounting function, ensuring that profitability is in keeping with Company’s targets.
  • Interface with the Company’s bankers and review reconciled accounts with bank statements.
  • Update internal payroll database and assist in outsourced payroll preparation.
  • Ensure that all statutory and corporate obligations are fully satisfied.
  • Oversee management of petty cash.
  • Ensure that all other financial and accounting functions are performed in a full, proper and timely fashion.
  • Drive continual improvement in the associated systems and process and maintain appropriate internal controls in safeguarding the company’s assets and its financial systems.
  • Coordinate with the Company’s auditors and facilitate timely completion of annual financial statements.
  • Develop the annual operating budget and consult with the Managing Director on the fiscal aspects of programme planning, salary recommendations and other administrative actions.
  • To remain informed and updated with all new accounting and reporting standards to ensure the relevant application of such standards are completed in a timely manner.
  • To lead continuous improvements of the finance function, motivate and lead the accounts team to produce timely reporting in accordance with set schedules.
  • Liaise with the Managing Director to ensure smooth and proper management of Company’s finances.
  • Any other duties as assigned.

 QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE      

  • Minimum of a First Degree in Business Administration/Accounts from a recognized tertiary institution; ACCA level II or its equivalent in type and scope.
  • Five (5) years of senior accounting experience
  • Auditing experience is a most.
  • ADAGIO/ACCPAC experience mastery level is required
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial regulations, and reporting standards.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy.
  • Deadline oriented
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
