Job Summary

Reporting to the Head of Operations Improvement, the Performance Analyst is responsible for data gathering, analysis, modelling, and reporting on all Operations Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) associated with process plant performance and strategic objectives. The position is required to conduct an in-depth analysis of available operational and financial data, using the appropriate tools and knowledge of plant and business operations to provide sound information to the Operations Leadership for timely decision-making and to improve performance against business and industry targets. This information will support the Operations department’s drive for Operational Excellence. These activities are expected to be conducted safely, cost-effectively, and reliably, and must be delivered in a manner that consistently adds value to PPGPL’s overall business process. The position is also required to provide job-related support to the group of companies, its subsidiaries, and new business ventures as required.

Dimensions

The Performance Analyst will interface with all plant and business information systems as well as other data sources as part of data gathering, performing analyses, and modelling, and provides performance-related information on wide-ranging activities across the Operations department. The function is also accountable for the preparation of Operations Business Plans and Budgets.  The position requires a high degree of analytical skills and knowledge of the use of appropriate reporting tools for the representation of data. Key outputs will be performance dashboards, specialized department reports, and identified performance areas for review and improvement.  

The Performance Analyst will liaise closely with members of the Operations Leadership Team and interface with other internal departments. The position operates under general guidance at the level of the Head Operations Improvement, is bound by established procedures and schedules, and has clear performance expectations. The Performance Analyst has no financial accountability limit.

Nature & Scope

The Performance Analyst provides subject matter expertise on Operations performance. The position will utilize appropriate tools for analysis and communicating KPIs to the target audience.  The incumbent will track operations business performance status versus budgeted targets and produce scheduled reports to the Operations team.  The position will be responsible for high-level auditing of performance to be able to highlight areas for improvement.

 

Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Identifies areas for improvement and concerns in business operational areas through analysis of performance data to identify root causes and provide appropriate strategies to resolve them.
  2. Develops, implements, maintains and communicates performance metrics using appropriate technology tools to improve business operational efficiency.
  3. Assists in the development of Operations budgets, tracking of spend on a scheduled basis, creating actual versus budgeted reports, and works with budget owners to ensure performance targets are achieved.
  4. Coordinates the preparation and roll-out of the Operations Strategic Business Plan annually.
  5. Assists with the management and reporting of incidents and Audit recommendations. This will include collating recommendations and completing closeout documentation.
  6. Conducts quarterly reviews on Capital Expenditure projects and post-implementation analyses to determine value gained by their implementation.
  7. Monitors, measures, and reports on the implementation of Operations Risk Management initiatives.
  8. Monitors, measures, and reports on the Operations Process Safety performance.
  9. Develops business reports and presentations for the Operations Leadership Team as needed.
  10. Conducts research into gas processing benchmarks and develops systems for undertaking peer-to-peer benchmarking at regular intervals.
  11. Any other job-related tasks or assignments as directed by the Head Operations Improvement.

Job Specifications

Minimum Acceptable Academic Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or equivalent, Business Management, Computer Science or Economics from an accredited tertiary institution.

 

The following certification will be an asset:

  • Registered Engineer with the Board of Engineering

 

AND

Minimum Number of Years of Relevant Experience

  • Seven (7) years of related experience working in process plant operation in the Gas and Petrochemicals Industry.
  • Experience working in KPI Development and Reporting is a requirement.

Specific Skills and Knowledge

  • Solid background and technical skills in the area of specialization
  • Knowledge and use of Business Information Management Systems
  • Must be able to work independently with little supervision.
  • Requires working knowledge of performance metric analysis and target setting.
  • Required competence to analyze operational, financial, and related data.
  • Strong communication skills
  • Can work with large volumes of data, apply statistical tools and models, as well as undertake research to detect trends and isolate essential relevant information for sound decision making.
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills - requires the ability to analyze large amounts of data and provide recommendations to support short and long-term business strategies.
  • Organizational skills - must have excellent rapport-building skills to establish and maintain strong working relationships across functional and reporting levels.
  • Perform highly detailed work on multiple, concurrent tasks with frequent interruptions; meet intensive and changing deadlines.
  • Understanding of the energy sector and the relevant terminology including OSHA PSM
