The successful candidate will coordinate all the engineering and maintenance activities.

Key responsibilities include maintaining a safe and orderly work environment, optimizing efficiency, equipment reliability, plant availability, life-cycle costing, preventive maintenance and supporting organizational goals and objectives.

 

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Ensure the availability of all equipment involved in all aspects of the production process from raw material through to shipping. These include: raw material scheduling & receipt, inventory management, laboratory, fermentation, distillation and shipping.
  • Determine staffing requirements and coordinate with Plant Manager and Human Resources for the hiring, training, evaluating, promoting and terminating of all maintenance personnel. 
  • Maximise plant availability, maintenance scheduling, productivity, machine utilization and labour productivity. 
  • Liaise with external agencies, consultants, contractors, suppliers and customers on maintenance-related issues. 
  • Assist the Plant Manager to develop sustainable Total Maintenance Plan (TPM) to ensure the success of the distillery. These include: safety, condition monitoring, life-cycle costing, preventative maintenance, resource allocation, inventory management, effective reporting and the establishing standard maintenance procedures and best practise. 
  • Assist with the preparation and execution of annual maintenance budget.
  •  Collaborate with the Plant Manager and Production Superintendent to monitor KPI’s and major cost drivers.
  •  Manage all maintenance related activities involved in the generation of distillery waste products through each stage of the process while ensuring compliance with external regulations.
  • Ensures that all engineering and maintenance activities are executed in a manner that is consistent with all regulatory agencies.
  • Collaborate with the Production Superintendent and Plant Manager to ensure optimal reliability of plant equipment. 
  • Provide supervisory oversight and support to all maintenance staff.
  • Handles grievances consistent with the company’s Code of Conduct and Grievance Procedure while maintaining a harmonious industrial relations climate.
  • Perform assigned responsibilities, duties, and tasks according to established practices, procedures, techniques, and standards in a safe and efficient manner and with minimal supervision.

Qualifications & Experience:

  •  A First Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related degree from a recognised tertiary institution.
  •  Minimum of three (3) years’ experience at supervisory level in a manufacturing environment would be an asset.
  • Proven record and ability to effectively manage a multi-shift operation.
