 JOB SUMMARY

The Superintendent plans, organizes, directs and controls the activities of a designated Project, Department or function to achieve the Company's goals and objectives in the most efficient and cost-effective manner, and in accordance with Client requirements, Standard Operating Procedures, safety and quality standards, codes, specifications and schedules.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSBILITIES

  1. Identifies and analyzes project goals and objectives to determine activities to be carried out in the immediate, short, medium and long terms.
  2. Develops plans and schedules, organizes workgroups, and prepares budgets where necessary, to achieve goals and objectives.
  3. Determines resource requirements to handle assignments including support from other sections or units of the Company's operations, and taking into account safety issues.
  4. Ensures that resources required to meet the two (2) week look ahead schedule and to achieve the goals/objectives of the Project are identified, taking appropriate steps to acquire resource needs in a timely manner.
  5. Determines work priorities and coordinates work activities among workgroups as well as with other section Heads or units of the Company’s operations (taking into account availability of all required resources and support) and briefs Supervisors and Foremen on plans, schedules and expectations.
  6. Monitors progress of project(s) ensuring that project scope deliverables move in accordance with predetermined schedule(s) and taking appropriate action to address any identified out of scope work or deviations from schedules, specifications or quality standards.
  7. Leads inspection and commission of day-to-day work activities to ensure conformity to specifications.
  8. Assists Estimating Department as required to develop cost estimates and project bids by identifying labour, material and equipment requirements in accordance with scope.

 TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES

  • Knowledge of the various areas of the Company's operations with emphasis on the relevant area to be supervised (Piping Installation/Erection, Tank Construction, Static & Rotating Equipment Installation, Structural Steel, Plant Maintenance & Turnarounds, Rigging).
  • Knowledge and understanding Construction and Material Management.
  • Understanding of Job Specifications and Construction Codes in particular API Standards 650 & 653 and API Standard 1104.
  • Knowledge and understanding of material traceability.
  • Understanding of the welding, and lifting and rigging processes.
  • Knowledge, understanding and ability to read construction blueprints/drawings and Project Schedules.
  • Project Management skills for planning, executing, monitoring and controlling of project(s).
  • Relevant project and construction execution knowledge with an understanding of estimating with respect to preparation of tenders.
  • Excellent communication skills.

 QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • A first degree in Engineering from a recognized University, plus five (5)years experience in a similar position; or
  • A National Technician's Diploma or equivalent in Engineering, plus ten (10) years in a similar position with at least five (5)years in a Supervisory capacity; or
  • Minimum of twenty (20) years experience in a supervisory project execution position with at leastten (10) years in a senior supervisory or managerial position.
  • Certification in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Certification in Supervisory Management from an accredited training institution/programme recognized by the Company.

SUPERVISOR

JOB SUMMARY

The Supervisor is responsible for the planning, organizing, directing and controlling work of a section or unit to ensure attainment of targets and objectives in the most efficient and cost effective manner, while ensuring Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), required safety and quality standards, budgets and the applicable terms and conditions of employment are observed.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Plans and schedules jobs and tasks for unit taking into account availability of all required resources and supports.
  2. Collaborates and co-ordinates with the Superintendent/Section Heads taking appropriate steps to ensure the resources required to meet and achieve the two (2) week look ahead schedule are identified and delivered in a timely manner.
  3. Identifies/assesses the assignments for assigned section or unit for the short and medium term and collaborates with his/her Superintendant/Section Head, to plan and schedule jobs/tasks for team/crew(s) taking into account availability of all required resources and supports.
  4. Determines resource requirements to handle assignments (materials, manpower and equipment) including support from other sections or units of the Company's operations, and taking into account safety issues.
  5. Takes appropriate steps to secure resources in a timely manner and assists in the recruitment of team / unit members.
  6. Monitors progress of jobs/tasks, identifying any out of scope work to Superintendent/Section Head for approval to proceed; and where necessary takes the appropriate action to ensure targets are met. 
  7. Conducts daily meetings with direct reports to review daily reports and determine corrective measures including change of or new assignments.

KEY COMPETENCIES / REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE

  • Knowledge of the various areas of the Company's operations with emphasis on the relevant area to be supervised.
  • Working knowledge in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook (tested) and other applicable programmes.
  • Problem Solving and Analysis.
  • Excellent communication skills.

QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Technician Diploma in related area or equivalent competencies as per formal Assessment by the Company.
  • Certificate in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Formal training, proficiency and/or conformance (demonstrated, certified or acceptable reference to the required standard) in the relevant area of the Company's/Client’s operations and requirements.
  • Certification in Supervision from an accredited training institution / programme recognized by the Company.
  • A minimum of seven (7) years experience in a similar position with at least five (5) in a leadership capacity.
