Medical Specialist
Medical Specialists will be responsible for the provision of specialist diagnosis, care and treatment at Dr. D. Orlando Smith Hospital and other locations as determined by the needs of the service. This includes involvement with any major accident, incident or disaster in the BVI. The Specialist is responsible for ensuring that standards of performance in the hospital are in keeping with accreditation requirements and evidence based practice. The medical specialist will be expected to provide on-call. The Specialist is also expected to participate in the clinical training, development and supervision of junior medical, nursing and paramedical staff. Interest and proficiency in a sub-specialty is welcome and will be encouraged. Three or more years post specialist qualification required. Experience in leading teams welcomed.
Minimum Requirements:
Licenses /Certifications
v Continuing professional education & training: - The post holder is expected to negotiate an annual programme of professional education and training. The BVI Health Service Authority will make a contribution towards the plan but the post holder is expected to bear some of the costs.
v BLS/ACLS certified.
Knowledge, skills and abilities
v Sound leadership skills.
v Sound knowledge of Medical Ethics.
v Sound knowledge of Medical Audit
v Must be able to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
v Able to work without supervision.
v Working knowledge of Quality Control and Risk Management
v Ability to inspire trust and confidence by both health professionals and users of the service alike.
v Sound oral and written communication skills in working with a cross section of multicultural staff and the general public.
v Excellent human relations skills and capable of dealing with conflict in a positive fashion in order to bring about positive change.

v On-call Arrangements: - Coverage is expected as rostered or as required.
v Post holder is expected to work within hospital and clinic setting.
v Exposure to multiple hazards.
v Essential worker- required to respond to emergency duty during times of crises and disaster.
SALARY: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
