PHARMACIST – SAVANNA-LA-MAR HOSPITAL

 

PHARMACY SERVICES DELIVERY DIVISION

 

ROLES AND FUNCTIONS OF JOB:

 

  • Responsible for the accurate and timely dispensing of drugs and medical supplies to patients according to the Pharmacy Laws of Jamaica.
  • Ensure good customer service practices and complaints management systems are maintained.
  • Provide a coordinated, therapeutic approach that seeks to manage and improve the health status of the patients.
  • Ensure that compounding, weighing and measuring are done in accordance with good manufacturing practices (sterility, attire of staff, environment).
  • Maintain quality assurance systems to ensure the maintenance of standards and procedures.
  • Specify and maintain the proper techniques and special protection needed for storage and preservation of therapeutic agents.
  • Provide patient counselling as needed to optimize drug therapy and patient care.
  • Assist in maintaining adequate stock of pharmaceuticals, sundries, medical and stationery supplies.
  • Utilize sound inventory management practices while dispensing.

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor of Pharmacy Degree.
  • Registered Pharmacist licensed by the Pharmacy Council of Jamaica.
  • Registered Preceptor by the Pharmacy Council of Jamaica/ University of Technology (an asset).
  • Certificate in Supervisory Management- an asset.
  • Minimum of two (2) years working experience as a Pharmacist in a community/hospital pharmacy.

 

SKILLS AND SPECIALIZED TECHNIQUES:

  • Computer literate with working knowledge of pharmacy software, Microsoft Word and Excel applications.
  • Knowledge of new trends and development in pharmacy.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with staff and others.
  • Ability to plan, assign and supervise professional and support staff engaged in the provision of pharmaceutical services.
  • Strong leadership qualities
  • Skill in decision- making, management and supervisory techniques.
