Fairfield International Academy (FIA) located in Montego Bay is seeking an experienced and meticulous financial professional to join Fairfield International Academy in the position of School Bursar. The Bursar is an integral part of the FIA team, ensuring the effective and efficient management of the school's financial resources.

Role Overview:

As our Bursar, you will manage incoming revenue, pay bills, record payments, upload invoices, and provide detailed financial reports. You will handle payroll, tax returns, and manage other financial activities such as budgeting and audits. We rely on our Bursar to adhere strictly to financial regulations and to support the school's goals and objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Update incoming revenue amounts in the system and enter all bills for the school.
  • Record school payments and upload invoices to the filing system.
  • Oversee collection efforts and follow up on all outstanding amounts.
  • Prepare and distribute demand notices; report receivables to the board.
  • Perform weekly bank account reconciliations.
  • Compute, record, and process payroll.
  • Prepare and file tax returns and pay slips.
  • Update tuition schedule monthly and invoice for tuition, books, applications, etc.
  • Oversee the entire accounting process, ensuring all items and reconciliations are in the system, documents are uploaded to Dropbox, and follow up with staff on missing items.
  • Prepare financial reports and present summary financials for board meetings.
  • Apply for GCT Zero Rating on Bills.
  • Administer and reconcile petty cash.
  • Complete bank templates for all payments and reconcile the credit card account, ensuring all receipts are uploaded.
  • Prepare a budget and perform an audit for the school year.
  • Prepare financials for the Ministry of Education and handle compliance matters.
  • Handle the selling of uniforms and books.

 

Key Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Two (2) to five (5) years' experience in financial management or a similar role, preferably in an educational institution.
  • Proficient knowledge of bookkeeping, budgeting, and financial analysis.
  • Proficiency in QuickBooks accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Solid understanding of tax laws and regulations.
  • Experience in payroll processing and compliance matters.
