The Financial Controller will have the responsibility of ensuring the integrity of the company’s financial records, identifying areas that require improvement and recommending necessary changes to support business development.

Financial Controller

Key Responsibilities:

  • Sound knowledge of financial management practices.
  • Ability to manage the accounting and other financial processes to ensure accurate and timely financial statements in the format used by statutory auditors.
  • Ability to prepare and analyze monthly balance sheet, generate trial balance and Profit and Loss figures, provide ledger comparisons, prepare comments, and expose performance trends within the guidelines of the IFRS9 and IFRS17 accounting standards.
  • Plays a lead role in the budgeting process to deliver draft budget by mid-November of each year, including analysis of variance with relation to actual vs. budgeted figures.
  • Must devise and operate an effective system of managing unallocated lodgments.
  • Sound knowledge of the relevant statutory regulations and government policies, including POCA and money laundering.
  • Designated person reporting to relevant authorities.
  • Must be able to develop and implement policies and procedures as required to ensure data protection at the highest standards.
  • Reviews and implements taxation and compliance policies and procedures in accordance with the laws of Jamaica.
  • Management of the audit process, including liaison with auditors.
  • Vast knowledge of the local and international financial markets
  • Excellent leadership qualities.
  • Proven research and financial planning skills.
  • Strong problem solving and interpersonal skills.
  • Completion of the audit process within 90 days of the end of the accounting period.
  • Be a strategic thinker.
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to multi-task and prioritize in a deadline-oriented environment.

Qualification/Experience:

  • ACCA Level 3 or MSc in Accounting or equivalent qualification
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience managing an Accounting Department in a financial institution.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Experience in Emortelle Database system would be a major asset.
