HUMAN RESOURCES OFFICER

The Caribbean Maritime University (CMU), the only specialized maritime university in the English-speaking Caribbean is inviting applications for the post of HUMAN RESOURCES OFFICER.

JOB SUMMARY

The Human Resources Officer will work closely with the Manager, Talent Management and Office of Human Resources team to ensure the delivery of effective day to day Human Resource services, ensuring efficient and effective information management.

The incumbent is responsible for providing support in the administration of established recruitment and selection procedures and processes for the workforce of the University.

PRIMARY RESPONSBILITIES

Technical Responsibilities

  • Provides technical assistance in the recruitment and support the process through checking application forms, short listing and interviewing;
  • Works closely with line managers to understand and implement policies appropriately and effectively;
  • Maintains accurate staff records electronically through the ERMS and individual hard copy files.
  • Follows up on background checks requests to ensure completion of reports;
  • Provides technical assistance  in the preparation of advertisements for job vacancies to be advertised internally or externally.
  •  Processes letters of application for employment;
  • Ensures efficient and effective administration of leave management, return to work process including absence management;
  • Provide support with the implementation of the HR Policy Manual, contracts and other relevant communications and letters and efficient administration of same;
  • Provide support in evaluating the Performance Appraisal system process;
  • Supports the administration of employees’ Health Benefits Programme and the Retirement and Pre-Retirement/Exit activities;
  • Supports the preparation of HR reports;
  • Ensures the efficient and effective administration of the HR function, working with the team to ensure continuous improvement;
  • Ensures that all HR operations are compliant with ISO standards

Performance Standards

  • Tasks satisfactorily completed as per targets in the Work and Operational Plans
  • High level of satisfaction experienced by staff, students and stakeholders.
  • Effective management of the CMU’s HR policies and strategies demonstrated.
  • Satisfactory collaboration maintained with the CMU’s external contacts resulting in efficient linkages of all stakeholders in the system.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

  • First Degree in Management Studies or Human Resource Management or Business Administration or other related discipline from a recognized tertiary institution
  •  At least three (3) years’ work experience in personnel administration, preferably in the Public Sector
  • Proficiency in computer applications

  •  Proficient in the use of all Microsoft applications, including spreadsheets, word processing, database management, presentation and other graphics-related programmes.
