The Government of Montserrat is inviting applications from suitably qualified persons for the post of Staff/District Nurse, within the Ministry of Health and Social Services.

JOB PURPOSE

Primary Health Care (PHC):  

Utilizes the PHC approach to co-ordinate and deliver PHC services and programmes to individuals/families and the community.

 

Secondary Health Care (SHC): 

Utilizes the Nursing process to ensure the delivery of quality nursing care to patients, families and the community.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Utilize the Nursing process to plan, implement, monitor and evaluate the care of the individuals, families and the community as a whole. 
  • Documents care provided in clients/patients records, using appropriate forms provided
  • Collaborates with other members of the health team to provide quality patient care
  • Undertakes patient and family teaching, discharge/transfer and referral planning activities
  • Organize and conduct continuing education for nurses, students and other stakeholders 
  • Conduct Ante & Postnatal, child health clinics, chronic illness clinics, immunization, school health, workplace wellness and health screening programmes
  • Supervises and reports on the work of junior and ancillary staff in the clinical areas
  • Assists in disaster preparedness and response in accordance with health disaster plan
  • Assists with Ward and Hospital Administrative Coverage Duties
  • Assists in the compilation of monthly and quarterly reports
  • Participates in research activities and utilize findings to improve nursing services and policies 
  • Controls and maintains resuscitation equipment, drugs and other supplies in accordance with agreed policy.

 

PERSONNEL SPECIFICATIONS

The applicant must:-

  • Be a Registered General Nurse 
  • Possess certification in Midwifery and practicing as a Registered Midwife 
  • Have a minimum of three (3) years working experience post training, preferably in the Caribbean.
  • Possess valid registration with Nursing Council in country of practice for both General Nursing and Midwifery
  • Have experience in motivation and team building skills
  • Computer literate and have basic Word-processing skills
  • Have good oral and written communication skills
  • Certificate or training in Management will be an asset
  • Knowledge and skills in preparing and presenting reports

 

TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF ENGAGEMENT

Appointment will be made either on a permanent or contractual basis. 

 

REMUNERATION PACKAGE

The annual remuneration package for the post of Staff/District Nurse is negotiable and commensurate with Qualifications, certification and experience. 

 

NB.  All nursing qualifications should be notarized. Additionally, all applicants who were trained outside the Caribbean region should send transcripts of their training.
