HSE Officer

 Magdalena Grand Beach & Golf Resort, Lowlands Tobago invites suitably qualified and   experienced   persons   with   significant   knowledge   and   experience in Health and Safety to fill the vacant position of Health, Safety and Environment Officer.

 

Health, Safety and Environment Officer 

The incumbent will report to the General Manager and will be responsible for developing and managing the Health & Safety Management System for all areas of the Hotel. Working with Department Managers to ensure ongoing compliance, audits, training of personnel and continual improvement of a health and safety culture of the hotel as specified under the OSH Act to ensure regulatory compliance.

 

Major Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manage overall HSE matters of the company while ensuring a safe workplace environment.
  • Conduct site safety meetings, HSE audits, inspections and follow up on non- conformances
  • Prepare and update weekly HSE statistic and report for company and contractors.
  • Responsible for developing and implementing a Health, Safety and Environmental management System in working towards STOW or ISO compliance for the company which comprises of HSE polices, programs and Safe Working procedures (SWP)
  • Ensuring the company complies with the Occupational Safety and Health Act 2004, Amendment 2006.
  • Responsible for conducting Safety Orientation for new employees before they start work.
  • Formulating and implementing risk assessments, Emergency response Plan (ERP) and all safety documentation for the company.
  •  Co-ordinate and conduct all evacuation procedures.
  • Co-ordinate the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) procedures for the company based on the approved policy.
  • Ensure that all Health & Safety policies, procedures, rules and regulations are adhered to and are regularly reviewed, updated and communicated
  • Ensure the completion and regular review of risk assessments for all work equipment and operations.
  • Reporting all accident cases resulting in more than three (3) days injury leave to OSHA (using Form 3) and coordinating with them on investigation basis. Reporting to OSHA all new civil engineering jobs being undertaken by the company (using Form 15.
  • Conducting thorough accident investigations and documentation ensuring that the recommendations and improvements are implemented and executed by responsible persons
  • Ensure that safety inspections are carried out, fire drills and fire alarms are correctly reported, safety inspections, risk assessments and lone working procedures are managed, and employees are aware of their responsibilities
  • Establish a full program of documented health & safety inspections, audits and checks. 
  •  Establish a structured program of health & safety training throughout the Company.
  • Liaise with external health & safety consultants in the provision of training programs and health and safety services
  • Keep up to date with all aspects of relevant health, safety & welfare at work legislation and communicate relevant changes to the Company
  • Updating the Executive and Line Managers on Health, Safety and Environmental issues and cases
  • Any other reasonable duties which may be required by management from time to time

Knowledge & Abilities

  • Ability to respond to emergency situations
  • Thorough knowledge of current health and safety best practices and standards
  • Ability to work on own initiative and meet aggressive deadlines 
  • Certification in Behavioral Safety Management will be an asset
  • In-depth knowledge of OSH Act
  • Working knowledge of applicable building codes
  • In-depth understanding of relevant ISO standards and reporting techniques

Minimum Requirements 

  • Degree in Occupational Health and Safety from an accredited academic institution
  • Five (5) years of relevant practical working experience of formulating, implementing and revising H&S policies and procedures.
  • Five (5) years’ experience performing HSE duties in a large, diverse organization.
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Tools and software relevant to job function.
