Position Summary:

Reporting to the Process Superintendent, the Laboratory Analyst III is accountable for the design and execution of simple and complex testing methods and applications to validate Point Lisas Nitrogen’s chemical process quality and the conduct of specified analytical laboratory tests on Point Lisas Nitrogen’s Water, Gases, Ammonia, Benfield and other special samples. The Laboratory Analyst III interprets, analyzes, documents and reports test results and analytical data in consultation with the Process Superintendent. The position must consistently fulfill these requirements in accordance with Point Lisas Nitrogen Limited’s business objectives, policy guidelines, procedures and through the effective use and management of the available equipment, material, financial and human resources.

 

Preferred Candidate Profile:

  • Ability to plan and execute testing and calibration of equipment as per the following listing-
    • pH & Conductivity Meters- Waters
    • UV-VIS Spectro Photometer- Waters
    • KFR Coulometric- Oils
    • Gas Chromatography Analyzers- Process Gas
    • Gas Chromatography Analyzers- Sulphur
    • Gas Chromatography Analyzers- Benfield / Act 1
    • FTIR- Oil in Ammonia / Water
    • Atomic Absorption Spectrometer
    • Graphite Furnace
  • In-depth knowledge and experience to carry-out lab tests and samples for both Benfield and Ammonia (shipping) in accordance with the established procedures and methods.
  • Ability to be detailed oriented to ensure that all results are accurate, verified and approved before issuance.
  • Ability to develop and maintain calibration/service schedules for all laboratory equipment.
  • Ability to troubleshoot equipment malfunction and execute high level repairs, as needed.
  • Ability to advise on laboratory spares requirements for all equipment and chemicals.
  • Experience in review and updating of Laboratory Manuals/Analytical Procedures inclusive of routine and non-routine testing methods and procedures.
  • Ability to research and develop Analytical Procedures for new testing methods associated with process troubleshooting and optimization.
  • Knowledge and experience in the use of CMMS (preferably JD Edwards) in the generation of work orders, order requisitions, purchase order inquiries, inventory searches and pick lists.
  • In-depth knowledge and experience in performing jobs within PLNL’s HSSE guidelines including STOP, JSA, PSM and Toolbox.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with plant personnel on recommendations for monitoring, maintaining, and improving the ammonia manufacturing process.
  • Ability to effectively work with other disciplines specifically, Operations and Process teams, to monitor all relevant process plant parameters and in the troubleshooting of plant issues.

Preferred Qualifications

  • B.Sc. in Chemistry or equivalent from a well-recognized, accredited institution.
  • A minimum of seven (7) years progressive experience in an industrial laboratory in the petrochemical industry. Preference would be given to candidates with work experience in the ammonia process.
