PRINCIPAL PURPOSE OF JOB/ JOB SUMMARY: The main purpose of the Fleet Manager is to supervise, monitor and manage all company vehicles to ensure the safety of personnel and to keep all vehicles in peak operating conditions.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

· Making sure that the optimum amount of vehicles are working at all times to meet customer needs.

· Implementing and monitoring a preventative maintenance programme to minimize unexpected repairs.

· Analyzing vehicle utilization.

· Getting the best returns on investments from each asset by developing systematic improvements to achieve the greatest efficiencies.

· Keeping impeccable records and ensuring that documents are compliant with all applicable government regulations.

· Purchases vehicle parts and monitors transportation budget for the purpose of ensuring that allocations are accurate and funds are maximized.

· Monitors and inspects trucks for repairs on a regular basis.

· Responsible for company vehicle documentation (insurance, registration, license, fitness etc)

· Monitors fuel costs and ensures that vehicle routing minimizes transport costs.

· Manages fleet drivers as it relates to training, motivation and safe driving skills.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS

· Knowledgeable about gas and diesel engines, electrical connections.

· Knowledgeable and skilled in truck maintenance.

· Very observant with attention to details.

· Strong supervisory and leadership skills.

· Good judgment and decision-making skills.

· High written and verbal communication skills.

· Maintains a high level of confidentiality, trustworthy and loyal.

· Must have an open general driver’s license to drive all size vehicles.

· Must be able to handle work-pressure well.

 

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT

· Bachelor’s degree in logistics, business administration, automotive technology or another relevant field.

· Over 3 years’ work experience in a similar capacity with experience at a supervisory level.

· Training in gas, diesel and auto electrical mechanics

 

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

· Incumbent may be required to work long hours which at times may include nights, weekends and public holidays.

· Must be prepared to manage intense emotional and stressful situations

· Must be prepared to assist during any accidents and may be exposed to trauma, blood or resuscitation of injured persons.

· Must be able to tolerate various personalities.
