Meteorologist Job Description

 Job Summary:

CVM Television is looking for a full-time Meteorologist. The right candidate is an authentic, creative on-air presenter, who has a deep passion for the science of weather and enjoys connecting with viewers on air and online. The ideal candidate will play a vital role by studying the causes and effects of climate change, raising awareness and advising others on global environmental issues.  In this role, job duties typically fall into two main areas: Forecasting and Research.

Functional Responsibilities & Core Duties:

 

  • Recording and analyzing data from worldwide weather stations, satellites, radars and remote sensors.
  • Interpreting observations from the land, sea and upper atmosphere.
  • Providing customers (such as civil aviation companies, broadcast companies and military units) with weather reports/forecasts as necessary.
  • Employing mathematical and physical formulae and using computer modelling applications to help make long- and short-range weather predictions.
  • Researching and predicting climate change.
  • Helping to improve weather prediction models.
  • Conducting Research, writing reports, reviews and summaries on daily weather changes.
  • Keeping abreast of relevant scientific and technical developments

  Qualifications & Experience: 

  • BA/BS in Atmospheric Sciences, Meteorology, Mathematics, Communications, or a related field.
  • 3- 5 years of experience preferred.
  • Experience with meteorological systems preferred.
  • A portfolio with examples of strong weather reporting.
  • Ability to generate creative, engaging, content-driven live shots.
  • Strong social media skills, including an active weather presence on Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, SnapChat and Facebook.
  • Knowledge of ENPS, Edius and Axis graphics are a plus.
  • Organizational skills and the ability to work under constant time-sensitive deadlines.
  • Ability to calmly handle live, weather situations and changing events.
  • Experience with videography, editing, and web content management systems a plus.

  • Help track and warn viewers of severe weather during continuous coverage.         
  • Develop story ideas, write and shoot environmental news stories for on-air broadcasting.
  • Develop original content through social listening and independent sources.
  • Perform other tasks as required by supervisor or executive producer.

 Work Environment:  

  • In office- normally performed in a typical interior/office environment on set.
  • The working environment dictates that the incumbent must be able to implement efficient systems to improve processes, multi-task, and work within a fast-paced environment.
  • Physical Demands may include Light work. Involves sitting most of the time, walking, lifting, bending, standing, etc.
