Economist I

 

Department:              S&T Statistics, Level 13, Ministry of Education Tower A

Reports to:                 Senior Economist

 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Organises and executes programmes of research for use as inputs into social and economic or physical planning or development studies.
  2. Compiles, investigates and analyses data related to fields of study from published and unpublished sources
  3. Conducts surveys and investigations related to the fields of study.
  4. Maintains data of national interest: presentation and dissemination of data, uploading current data, survey write-ups
  5. Analyses and evaluates data and presents findings in useful form
  6. Prepares comprehensive analytical and evaluative reports to provide a basis for formulating development plans.
  7. Prepares quarterly/annual reports as requested internally and by line ministry
  8. Prepares formal communication with external stakeholders such as letters, emails, and press releases
  9. Liaises and collaborates with other employees engaged in research studies
  10. Represents the organization at meetings/conferences or on committees.
  11. Performs other related duties as required.

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from a recognised University.
  • 2-4 years’ relevant experience

OR any equivalent combination of experience and training

  • Experience with statistical programming software such as SPSS and with using large and varied datasets, would be an asset

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of economic theory, principles and practices, research methods, and statistical techniques
  • Knowledge of current developments in economic and fiscal matters, locally, regionally and globally
  • Sound research, information, organisational, numerical, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to analyse data and evaluate problems objectively and to recommend appropriate action
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with project stakeholders, associates, other employees and the public.
  • Competence in the use of MS Office Suite and relevant specialist computer software
