To develop and maintain accounting principles, practices and procedures to analyze financial information, prepare accurate and timely financial reports and statements and ensure appropriate accounting control procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Management of the day to day operations of the finance function to ensure timely completion of monthly, quarterly and annual reports
  2. Review, management and co-ordination of the financial month-end close process, ensuring that all relevant journals/adjustments are posted. Close of the accounting period in Sage within five (5) business days after the end of the calendar month. Generation of monthly financial reports within three (3) days of month-end close, to facilitate timely submission to the Finance Committee. Completion of Balance Sheet reconciliations by the 15th of the following month.
  3. Co-ordination and preparation of draft financial statements for audit for financial year ended September 30th, 2021, inclusive of Expected Credit Loss calculation and preparation of corporative tax return. Ensures that the audit package is completed for submission to the external audit before the start the audit. Serves as main liaison with external auditors regarding request for information/queries. (Note: Based on how FY 2021 audit progresses, preparation of draft unaudited financial statements for financial year ended September 30, 2022 may also be required)
  4. Primary contact for internal Audit regarding various exercises, ensuring that requested information is submitted in a timely manner.
  5. Primary contact and main liaison with the Board of Inland Revenue regarding VAT and Corporation Tax audits.
  6. Preparation of bi-monthly Vat returns for submission to the Board of Inland Revenue by the stipulated deadline.
  7. Payment of quarterly Business Levy and Green Fund Levy to the Board of Inland Revenue by stipulated deadline
  8. Supervision of staff with direct oversight of Accounts receivable – Credit, Accounts Receivable – Corporate Shops & Franchises, Accounts Payable, International Accounts, Treasury Supervisors and Finance Analysts. Includes monitoring, motivating and disciplining where required. Actively seek opportunities to train staff in accounting principles and better ways of working.
  9. Provision of support in the development of relevant and robust policies, procedures and controls for Finance Division.
  10. Provides support in the management of the cash flow of the Corporation by competently managing the treasury function and assisting with collections from debtors and franchise holders.
  11. Prepare of ad hoc reports when required.

Qualifications

  • Ten (10) years’ work experience in an accounting environment with at least five (5) years’ experience in a senior position
  • Professional Accounting qualification e.g. ACCA level III,  or First Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field
  • Accounting Software qualification will be an asset.

 

Knowledge and Other Skills

  • Analytical and problem solving skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Working knowledge of Peachtree Accounting Software
  • Ability to multitask
  • High level of emotional intelligence/ability to interact professionally and productively with direct reports, other team members and external parties
  • Excellent written, oral communication and report writing skills.
  • Experience in the financial services and/or securities industry would be an asset
