SENIOR ACCOUNTING ASSISTANT
SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
The incumbent will be required to ensure the accuracy and integrity of the company and its related companies accounting records with a view to maximize profitability and safeguarding of its assets.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintains the efficiency of the Company and its related Companies operations by recording, researching and analyzing the performance of inter alia the following areas:
a) Safeguarding the company’s assets and expenditures
b) Ensuring appropriate accounting treatment for all transactions
c) Verifying all claims for payments
d) Preparing accurate and timely financial reports (daily / weekly / monthly / quarterly / annually)
e) Prepares monthly variance reports viz sales and profitability.
f) Prepares auditable accounts and related audit schedules.
- Maintains a fixed Asset Listing (Register).
- Prepare and Review Fortnightly and monthly paid payroll for accuracy and timely transmission.
- Ensures strict conformance to the company’s statutory obligations viz., PAYE, NIS, H/S, GFL, VAT and TAX.
- Prepare and assists with annual audit.
- Reviews monthly sales reports in accordance to established formats and timelines.
- Performs duties as Petty Cashier. Custodian of the company’s petty cash, disbursement of cash and preparation of reimbursement (optional).
- Prepares / circulates daily bank balances.
- Prepare and submit Monthly Management Reports on 5th working day monthly.
- Enters supplier invoices into the accounting software
- Prepares supplier payments
- Reconciles supplier statements
- Enters invoices and receipts in the accounting software
- Reconcile customer statements
- Follow up on collections
- Ensure all set timelines for reports, projects and assigned task are achieved.
- Develops / maintains appropriate filing systems.
- Other duties as assigned by the General Manager/Director.
- Ensures proper housekeeping practices, for example, maintaining an updated and easily retrievable filing system.
- Assist with special projects and other related duties as requested by management within the related companies.
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
REQUIRED: 1. Minimum 3 years’ experience in a senior accounting position.
2. Minimum ACCA Level 2 or Equivalent Accounting Qualifications
3. Hands on knowledge of Microsoft Access, Excel and Inventory application
4. Familiarity with safety programs in a manufacturing environment
5. Effective communication and interpersonal skills
6. Team Leader and results oriented.
