Paralegal/Executive Legal Secretary - Relocation to Bermuda

The Platinum Group is seeking a Paralegal/Legal Secretary for a number of roles with growing companies in Bermuda. The individual in this role will be responsible for improving attorney efficiency by providing administrative support by preparing documents like affidavits and legal correspondence, as well as organizing and maintaining files. In addition to filing pleadings with court clerks and help prepare or trials by organizing exhibits and assisting with maintaining attorney calendars and typing court minutes.

Responsibilities

  • Provide secretarial support to one or more lawyers at the firm
  • Welcome clients and conduct initial screenings of new clients.
  • Go to court proceedings and type minutes.
  • Preparing affidavits, legal correspondence and other documents for attorneys.
  • Organizing and maintaining documents in a paper or electronic filing system.
  • Meeting with clients, attorneys, and other professionals to talk about case details.
  • Filing pleadings with court clerk.
  • Helping prepare for trial by organizing exhibits and assisting with other tasks as needed.
  • Preparing briefs, wills, contracts, real estate closing statements, pleadings, appeals, and other legal documents.
  • Investigating facts and laws of cases and searching public records and other resources to prepare cases and determine causes of action.
  • Directing and coordinating law office activity, including delivery of subpoenas.
  • Gathering and analyzing statutes, decisions, and legal articles, codes, documents and other data.
  • Calling on witnesses to testify at hearings.
  • Keeping law library up-to-date by monitoring legal volumes.
  • Edit and proofread all legal documents.
  • Maintain attorney calendar by scheduling conferences, depositions, and meetings.
  • Organize all legal documents and ensure they are updated.
  • Ensure all court documents are in order and filed before deadlines.
  • Answer emails and phone calls, and when necessary, redirect calls.
  • Research and authenticate important case information.
  • Prepare different legal documents including appeals, motions, and petitions.

Requirements:

  • Certificate of completion from an ABA-approved paralegal certification program of education and training, is required
  • Associate degree in legal studies or related field preferred
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar role is required
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, specifically Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Must be able to effectively multi-task, manage time-sensitive documents and have exceptional organizational skills in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be able to function effectively in a busy, team-oriented environment.
  • Office administration experience.

Salary Note

The Bermuda dollar is on par with USD and enjoys a very low payroll tax rate.
